Grids and tables should work nearly the same when the table is basic (like this one).

Chrome stable: NVDA did not recognize a grid or table at all
Firefox: NVDA recognized a "table with 0 rows and 0 columns" and table reading commands didn't work. 
Chrome Canary: This works as expected with NVDA

I am resolving this bug as WontFix since David was able to show the same behavior in Firefox of the element being recognized as a grid, not a table. This indicates that the behavior you are seeing comes from the website itself as opposed to a browser specific concern. This table appears to be presented to screen reader users properly in 64.0.3273.3 (Official Build) canary (64-bit) (cohort: Clang-64) .
 and does not give further information in resolving remaining table issues so I am closing this bug
