Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/62.0.3202.94 Safari/537.36 Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. Go to a NYT page, e.g., https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/13/opinion/republican-taxes-next-generation.html 2. Attempt to select text: hold right mouse button down and move mouse. 3. That's it. The text isn't selected. What is the expected behavior? Text should be selected (to be copied) What went wrong? Text not selected. Instead the page zooms. Did this work before? Yes Version 61 Chrome version: 62.0.3202.94 Channel: stable OS Version: 10.0 Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 27.0 r0 This only happens on NYT pages! Or at least those are the only pages on which I've seen it happen. Selecting text on other web pages works fine.

The text isn't selected Scenario-2: 1. Go to a NYT page, e.g., https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/13/opinion/republican-taxes-next-generation.html 2. - *Select *worked on version 61; it didn't work on version 62. - I don't see the difference between your Scenario-1 and Scenario-2. - Your message had no attachment. - Text is normally selected with the left mouse button. Neither works to select text in version 62.

I have the same problem with a bare canary #64.0.3269.3. I also have the same problem with Firefox. But not with Internet Explorer or MS Edge. Chrome and Firefox are fine on domains other than www.nytimes.com. Chrome and Firefox even have no problems on the front page of https://www.nytimes.com/, but they both foul up on every other https://www.nytimes.com/ page I've tried. I have no idea what might produce these strange symptoms.

This must be a nyt issue. When I load a NYT page and click the 'x' on the reload button to stop loading before page load completes but after the main body appears, I have no trouble selecting text. The problem occurs when I allow the page to load fully,

russ.abbott@ - As per comment #11, please let us know if the issue can be closed. Removing the Needs-Bisect label, as it doesn't seems to reproduce form TE-end and as per comment #11, it seems to be a NYT issue. Thanks...!!

I would prefer not to close the issue. As I said, the same problem occurs with Firefox. But it doesn't occur with MS Edge. At a minimum the Chrome team should determine what about the website is causing the problem. In addition, I have another problem. On certain Amazon pages, hover normally generates a pop-up. It no longer does that. Again, the problem also occurs with Firefox but not with MS Edge. It would be nice to know what's going on. Please don't give up.

I became so frustrated with the Surface that I switched to an HP. Still using the latest Windows 10. The problem no longer appears. So the problem must have something to do with the Surface and certain websites.

I can confirm that this issue exists. It is, I believe, the same bug we had back in 2015 where the NYT would detect a touchscreen and take over how the mouse acts. (Double-click zooms text, drag horizontally switches articles, etc.) That would be fine if it only did that on touch events, but it happens with my trackpad and even when I plug in an external mouse.
I have reproduced this bug on my GNU/Linux touchscreen laptop (Dell Latitude) using both
* Chromium Version 64.0.3282.119 (Developer Build) built on Debian 9.3, running on Debian 9.3 (64-bit)
and
* Google Chrome Version 64.0.3282.186 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Now that you know that this is happening on both Microsoft Surface Tablets and GNU/Linux touchscreen laptops, I think you'll be able to reproduce it. Of course, please let me know if I can be of further assistance.
P.S. Probably not important, but I'm running the standard GNOME 3.22 desktop environment that comes with Debian GNU/Linux 9 ("Stretch").

Unable to reproduce the issue on ubuntu 17.10 touch screen using chrome stable version #66.0.3359.170 and latest canary #68.0.3431.0. As we don't have a GNU/Linux touchscreen laptop (Dell Latitude) to reproduce the issue. Hence, adding label TE-Hardware-Dependency. Thanks...!!

The issue occurs on the latest Chrome browser running on a new high-powered HP computer running Windows 10. It doesn't need Linux.

@krajshree: There is no hardware dependency I am aware of other than having a touchscreen and a mouse. When you say "unable to reproduce", do you mean that you attached a bluetooth or USB mouse and tried to select text and it worked? Or, do you mean that the only touchscreen hardware you have doesn't have a mouse? Also, Russ is correct, I only mentioned GNU/Linux on my laptop to show that the problem occurs regardless of OS.
