Not sure why it says Windows, I clearly selected iOS, I'm running iOS 11.2

The issue seems to be related to IOS. Hence, adding apt. OS label.
When I reported it switched all my input to Windows, I don't know why, sorry about that.

It's iOS 11.2 public beta 2

This splash distortion happens only is there's a thick status bar (location usage, in-call status). The splash screen is distorted.

This happens with many other apps and is probably an artifact of how iOS handles splash screen. This seems like an iOS system issue unrelated to Chrome.

Not sure why this was closed as WontFix. If this is iOS issue, then we could file radar and mark as ExternalDependency. If this is Chrome issue, then closing as WontFix does not seem like appropriate action either.

Launching the app is a critical user journey, the bug shows up rarely, but when it does it makes pretty bad first impression.
Simple fix: hide status bar during splash screen.
Other fix can be found on SO, but they involve having a Splash image instead of a xib.

Pete and mardini, do you have a preferred option on this?

Hiding status bar during splash screen SGTM.
However, it does sound like an iOS bug that affects all apps. So a radar should be filed.

SG. We can do both--file a radar and disable the status bar.

The following revision refers to this bug:
  https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromium/src.git/+/36af6e88a8e248057010e99fa99ce1eb5ba6270b

commit 36af6e88a8e248057010e99fa99ce1eb5ba6270b
Author: Mike Dougherty <michaeldo@chromium.org>
Date: Wed Apr 11 20:17:11 2018

[iOS] Hide status bar during launch.

The system truncates the middle of the launch screen if content is
centered on it and the status bar is visible. Hide the status bar while
the launch screen is displayed in order to prevent this distortion. After the
application launches, the status bar visibility will be based on the values
returned from |prefersStatusBarHidden| methods.
