Canary Chrome can't be installed in work profile if Canary Chrome is already installed for user 0 |
||||||
Issue descriptionDevice name: Nexus 5x Canary Chrome version: 64.0.3261.0 Operating system: Android 8.1.0 OPM1 build 171019.009 Steps to reproduce: (1) Have an android device with a @google.com corp work profile (2) Install Canary Chrome for default user (3) Try to install Canary Chrome in play store of the work profile Expected result: App is successfully installed. I would also expect that it's the same app, running from same /data/app/<pkgname> folder for both users. Actual result: Installation fails with "app_already_installed_other_user" error.

@vtarasov -- Thanks for reporting this issue. Followed the below stsps: 1. Logged in device with corp account. (@google.com) 2. Device Policy app is installed. 3. Launched Play Store. 4. Searched for Chrome Canary 5. Observed that Chrome Canary version #64.0.3276.0 got installed. Note: Was also able to update Canary to latest version from #64.0.3274.0 to #64.0.3276.0. Tested on Nexus 5X, Android 7.1.1, Build/NMF26X @vtarasov- Could you please try to install the latest version of Canary and let us know your observations. Thanks in advance.

Key is installing for two different users on the phone - one is the default user (non-@google.com account), and another is @google.com work profile. Once you instlall Canary Chrome in one user, Google Play refuses installing Canary Chrome for another user.

Tested this issue and able to reproduce the issue. Steps Followed: 1. Login with a normal Goole account and Corp account. 2. Install Chrome Canary using normal account. 3. Try installing Canary using corp account. 4. Observed that user receives an alert "You cannot install app because another user has already installed an incompatible version already". Installed Canary version #64.0.3279.0. Untriaging this issue so that the issue gets addressed. Please refer logs and screencast here: go/chrome-androidlogs/782757

Seems like this is the expected behavior, cannot of have multiple instances of same chrome versions even though the profiles are different.

Can you please clarify why is this the expected behavior? - Non-canary chrome can be installed for multiple profiles. Why should Canary be different? - Other google apps, like Gmail, Messages, Hangouts, Drive, Youtube and others, can be installed for multiple profiles. - In both cases above the profiles share the installation location (/data/app dir) and have separate user data / cache dirs.
