[Social Prestable] Youtube / Twitch crashes when Chrome is minimized |
|||||||||
Issue descriptionChrome Version: To be determined OS: Windows What steps will reproduce the problem? (1) Launch Chrome and visit youtube / twitch (2) Play a video (3) Minimize Chrome What is the expected result? Youtube should not crash with an error message What happens instead? When using chrome and watching/ listening to youtube that when I minimise chrome it crashes youtube and gives me the "An error has occurred. Please try again later" note. Seems to only happen when chrome in in full screen when I minimize a video on Chrome it restarts the video. If I do it again it says "An error occured, please try again later". But, if I do it on firefox, it's totally fine. Bibin@, can you please try a repro?

Tentatively adding M-63 for tracking.

Assigning to dalecurtis@ for triage. Could this be related to the background optimisations?

Unable to reproduce this issue on Ubuntu 14.04 & 16.04, Windows-10 and Mac OS 10.12.6 using chrome latest stable #62.0.3202.75, beta #63.0.3239.18 and dev #64.0.3251.0 with nvidia and integrated intel drivers. Observations: -------------- 1. Opened chrome with hardware acceleration enabled 2. Navigated to YouTube and Twitch page and played videos in multiple tabs 3. Clicked on minimize button and left over for some time 4. Maximized chrome again and observed the videos are playing fine with no crashes As per the reddit link provided in the original comment, the user has mentioned saying this issue got resolved when the hardware acceleration is disabled and after an update of nvidia driver. jainabhishek@ Is there any possibilities of getting chrome crash ID's from chrome://crashes? Thanks!

Possibly, but the described behavior is below the trigger duration for the optimization; i.e., track optimization don't kick in until 10 seconds. I spent some time trying to reproduce on Linux, Windows with 62, 63, 64 w/ and w/o AdBlock Plus, uBlock Origin without effect

cc: liberato per c#5 (turning off hardware acceleration resolves this) + jbauman in case he saw this type of issue before leaving.

Chrome 62 has bug and will cause GPU process crashes when minimizing the whole window: https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=773199 Can anyone check if there are any error messages in chrome://gpu?

since crbug/773199 is fixed, jainabhishek@, can you try the chrome build 63.0.3239.40 or later to see if this bug is fixed? it seems a dup of 773199.
