on start up, screen now freezes - need to switch off and start again

Tested the issue in Android and could not reproduce the issue.

Steps Followed:
1. Launched Browser
2. No freezing is observed on startup

Chrome versions tested:
61.0.3163.98, 62.0.3202.66

OS
Android 6.0.1

Android Devices 
6.0.1: SM-J710F Build/MMB29K

@niall.m.craig: Could you please upgrade your Chrome to the latest version and check if you still face the issue? If so provide us the details of your device for further triaging.
