remove name button

Reported by iutoa...@gmail.com, Oct 24 2017

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/62.0.3202.62 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1 I tried everything at https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=609398&can=2&start=0&num=100&q=&colspec=ID%20Pri%20M%20Stars%20ReleaseBlock%20Component%20Status%20Owner%20Summary%20OS%20Modified&groupby=&sort= .
2.
3.

What is the expected behavior?
removal of button

What went wrong?
button is still there

Did this work before? N/A

Chrome version: 62.0.3202.62 Channel: stable
OS Version: 6.1 (Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2)
Flash Version:

I'm pretty sure that this button was not there until today.
Best I could do is change my profile name to a symbol to make it less conspicuous. But I want to remove the button completely. The last comment at the the forum page listed above says
says "If you are still seeing this please do NOT post here, go file a new bug" so that's what I'm doing.

Profile avatar button is seen from M50 [50.0.2661.0]. If you have only one profile then you can see only avatar icon. If we have more than one person we see profile name on it.

As per comment#0 expected behaviour is removal of button. This is working as Intended and we can't remove profile button as per design.

@Reporter: Please check and let us know what is the expected behaviour.

Thanks!

Thank you, but I'm afraid that I don't understand a word of these two comments. I'm old and I was a literature major.

However, I can tell you that I have only one profile an see only one avatar button. I changed it so that instead of seeing my name, I now see a colon. I chose a colon instead of a period because it resembles the three vertical dots I see used as a Settings menu.

I've resigned myself to having this annoying little box taking up space and simply hope that it will disappear by itself.

Thank you for providing more feedback. Adding requester "sc00335628@techmahindra.com" to the cc list and removing "Needs-Feedback" label.

can you take a picture of this button? And also, can you take a picture of the menu when you click on that button?

Thanks,

Hi there! The bug you linked is about an issue where the profile chip (what you're calling the "name button") overlapped with the window controls (minimize, maximize, and close). It wasn't about providing the ability to remove that button completely.

We do not provide any controls or settings for completely removing the profile chip. Setting it to be a single character (or even an emoji!) is a good workaround if you want the profile chip to be as unobtrusive as possible.

You can follow up on Issue 571589 as well, which is also about hiding/removing the profile chip.

Thank you, all. Sorry that I'm just answering today. I only check gmail once in a while.

I am now used to my colon symbol taking up the space and have stopped thinking about it. It doesn't drive me crazy enough to send me back to Firefox.

Thanks again.
