Google search in new tab page does not work with pen input on Surface Pro (2017) |
|||
Issue description
Chrome Version : 61.0.3163.100 (Official Build) (64-bit) (cohort: Stable)
URLs: new tab page
Add OK or FAIL after other browsers where you have tested this issue:
MS Edge: PASS (Version)
What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1) Open a new Chrome tab
(2) Open on-screen keyboard and select handwritten input
(3) Start writing text
What is the expected result?
Chrome fills in the full text input, for example "yesterday".
What happens instead?
As soon as I finish the first letter, Chrome exits the on-screen keyboard. For example, after I handwrite a "y", Chrome will switch to the address bar, "helpfully" filling in youtube.com even though I didn't dismiss handwritten input!
We worked around this by using Edge, which doesn't have a page that pretends to be google.com. I think using the actual google.com page produces the correct behavior.
This bug is especially bad because it looks like it's Microsoft's fault (I received a complaint that the Surface Pro was buggy!) but instead the Chrome new tab page is misleading.

Rechecked this issue using chrome version# 61.0.3163.100 on Windows 8 Surface pro and unable to reproduce it. Navigated to chrome and clicked the on-screen keyboard and select handwritten input. Entered the text "Yesterday" and the search was made for single string Yesterday. Could you please let us know on which version of Windows OS you have faced this issue. Also can you try resetting chrome settings, restart machine and try again. Please update us with your observations. Thanks.!
