After upgrading to osx high sierra, links are opening in a blank new window (and not loading the page)

Reported by regis.ca...@gmail.com, Oct 13 2017

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_13_0) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/62.0.3202.45 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. click on some link somewhere in the OS

What is the expected behavior?
new tab with the link "loaded" inside it

What went wrong?
a new Chrome window is opened but the link is not "loaded"

Did this work before? Yes OSX sierra

Chrome version: 62.0.3202.45 Channel: n/a
OS Version: OS X 10.13.0
Flash Version:

This looks like some breaking change in the OS. NB: works fine with Safari or Firefox as default browser

Launching `/Applications/Google\ Chrome.app/Contents/MacOS/Google\ Chrome "http://www.google.com"` in a terminal works as expected

1.) Can you please attach a link where this happens?
2.) Does it only happens on 10.13?
3.) Can you reproduce it on another Mac Device?

Thanks.
Hi,

1/ any link in the OS for example `echo http://www.google.com` in a Term then command-double-click on the result. "Intra"-browser links are working fine.
2/ it was working fine before upgrade so IMHO yes
3/ it works on another mac of mine with high sierra

I will try to find the difference between the two machines. What I do notice is that the "default browser" shows "Google chrome" on the non working machine but "Google chrome.app" on the working one.

Thanks for your feedback. May be you can try to change the default browser to e.g. Safari, open some links with it and then switch back again to Chrome as default. A further try could be to create a new Chrome Profile.

OK, I got a chrome update, restarted it and it's now back to normal. Sorry for the disturbance and thanks for your help.
