Issue descriptionRepo steps. 1. Enter Simple Chrome environment without --internal, and download the VM: ~/code/chrome/src $ cros chrome-sdk --board=amd64-generic --download-vm --log-level=debug --clear-sdk-cache 2. Rebuild chrome: ~/code/chrome/src $ gn gen out_$SDK_BOARD/Release --args="$GN_ARGS" ~/code/chrome/src $ ninja -C out_amd64-generic/Release/ -j1000 -l20 chrome chrome_sandbox nacl_helper 3. Launch VM + deploy chrome: ~/code/chrome/src $ cros_vm --start ~/code/chrome/src $ deploy_chrome --build-dir=out_amd64-generic/Release/ --to=localhost --port=9222 4. Relaunch the VM: ~/code/chrome/src $ cros_vm --start The VM should restart a few times and chrome won't start. I'm looking at this, but don't know what the problem is so can't estimate a time for a fix. Is the issue that we don't want to check out src-internal on these bots?

Yes. We try to avoid checking out src-internal where possible; if we check out src-internal, we have to make the build logs accessible only to Googlers, which is very user-unfriendly. It might also make it impossible for us to run this in the CQ, because we'd be running untrusted code (uncommitted patches from external contributors) that would have access to internal things.

Ok, thanks for the explanation. So I cannot reproduce this on wolf, so it's only happening with the VM. This could be the GPU crash we're seeing in http://crbug.com/772568, but I don't know why it only crashes with chromium and not chrome.

So the betty VM is not crashing either. It's looking more likely that this bug is due to issue 772568, but for whatever reason, it appears to only manifest on non-internal builds. I'll continue to dig into this to confirm that this is in fact a GPU crash on amd64-generic. Dirk, can you use board=betty? It seems to work without --internal.

So this is a renderer crash, not a GPU process crash. Hence unlikely to be issue 772568.

Unfortunately, betty is an internal-only build, so is not suitable for chromium bots. We have to get amd64-generic to work without --internal.

Okay, I should've checked on that first, I suppose. I had added builders for that, but they're actually just building amd64-generic, so I'll remove them now as not useful.

I am switching this right now and in a few days you should not use amd64-generic anymore (but its copy, probably called vm). But one way or another it means the crash needs to be symbolized.
