leaving chrome or turning off screen shouldn't pause actively playing audio

I'm watching a 3 hour live stream on my phone. I can't turn the screen off because it autopauses the video. I can't switch to my email or chat app because that also autopauses the video.

What I want to happen in this case is for the notification icon to remain and the audio to keep playing.

I know the notification is suppose to persist when I swap out of Chrome, but I'm not getting it on the page I'm on.

I know thought has gone into this, I'm just struggling to understand why we have our current behavior of pausing.

Hi Ojan, let me check the repro steps to track down the issue:

1.) Play video on website 
2.) Confirm media playback notification appears
3.) Switch apps
4.) Sound stops/media pauses
5.) Pull up the notification and hit play
6.) Sound starts again 

Does this work? If not, where do things break down? What site are you using?

Sorry I never responded. I don't see any after the media pauses. So, I can't do step 5.

For example on this page https://developer.chrome.com/devsummit/. Is youtube actually pausing the video or something?
