Issue descriptionSteps to reproduce the problem: I am browsing for example https://www.orawellness.com/can-a-routine-visit-to-the-dentist-actually-cause-tooth-decay/ . I want to copy the URL. I tapped the three dots menu, however there is no copy command available there. The best I can do is push the share button and then within that and Sub menu pick copy to clipboard. Or instead of touching the three dots I could just hold my finger upon the small URL area and then click select all and then click copy. However all of the above methods require much more work than a simple copy command directly available from the three dots menu. So unfortunately it is missing and needs to be put there. I should mention furthermore the select all and then copy sequence also requires a steady hand. All much more work than the simple copy item that is missing from the three dots menu. What is the expected behavior? What went wrong? There are many things with ailable in the three dots menu, unfortunately the most basic copy command is not one of them. You might think that well there's other ways to copy so why should we clone her the menu up with even more ways? However all the other ways require much more work from the user. At least twice the work. Did this work before? N/A Chrome version: 63.0.3234.0 Channel: canary OS Version: Flash Version:

@jidanni: Thanks for the report!! Too copy the selected URL, follow the below steps and let us know the update. 1. Launch the Browser 2. Navigate to sites 3. Go to Search box, long press on the URL, there you'll find context menu with "cut copy Share select all" options 3. If you want to copy the links on the page, long press on the link, there you'll find copy link address option Thanks!!

Okay. It worked. However if you compare Firefox, you'll find that you can do the same thing in Firefox, however Firefox has an additional share icon and copy icon within its three dots menu. I rather prefer more ways to do it then less. I know you guys are trying to save space, but what if for some reason the single method remaining to copy the link fails? I like the Firefox way with or more than just one way to do it. Not that Firefox has a problem, when copying the link in the URL bar it never shows you when you are copying.

Thank you for providing more feedback. Adding requester "sandeepkumars@chromium.org" to the cc list and removing "Needs-Feedback" label. For more details visit https://www.chromium.org/issue-tracking/autotriage - Your friendly Sheriffbot

It never shows you what you are copying. I must apologize, today I'm using Google oral input so there are lots of missing words in my bug report.

This looks to be a Non-Regression issue as observing the same behavior since M55. Hence removed bisect label and untriaged for further input's on this issue. Thanks!!

An entry in the menu would certainly be more convenient. But, given that there are alternative methods available, I'm skeptical that the usage this would see justifies an entry in the menu, which is already pretty full. But I'll leave that for the Android team to decide.

Agree with #9, there are many options for copying the URL 1.) Long press URL, select copy 2.) 3 dot menu, share, copy to clipboard (assuming you have drive installed which provides that link) 3.) Click the lock icon in the url bar (or the (i) icon in the menu), long press on the url text. Adding something to the menu that is available through all of these options is definitely not going to happen. I also believe that sharing out is the most common behavior as copying/pasting is a desktop pattern and sharing on mobile has replaced that usage in my of the common patterns. |
