Chrome Home: do not put top sites favicons within circles

Steps to reproduce the problem:
in Chrome Home, at some point the decision was made to put the top site favicons within circles and I strongly believe this was a bad decision. Please reconsider this

What is the expected behavior?

What went wrong?
Please see the before and after comparison attached. This is especially a downgrade for users that have smaller phones or phones that have lower resolutions

I just noticed that favicons are also put inside of circles in the Bookmarks and History sections too... Come on now, that's just silly

I know chrome home was canceled but this still applies to 'modern'/refresh, putting the top site icons in circles is a mistake, please reconsider
