This one does not look like graphics issue. Is it possible to send a feedback report after repro? I would like to take a look at chrome user level log when the problem happens. The debug log in #0 has only system level logs. And crash log is short and spammed with "ASR: No room in socket buffer." lines.

On its way, Did a hard system reboot at 5:22, Logged in to our portal at 5:25 and got the hang almost immediately after. .... I can't file a feedback report, the browser crashes and reloads. I did file a new issue through chrome://crashes (but it didn't have my latest crash, just an earlier one) https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=777589 Is there something else I can do to get you the crash?

Re #7: Thanks. Right, feedback will not work when browser hung. The crash does not pick useful info though. It is a SIGSEGV, probably something else. Since you can repro the hang, could you open a tab and visit "file:///home/chronos/user/log" after the browser is killed and restarted. That url should list chrome user level logs. Could you pick up the one where the hang happens and attach it to this bug?

Either way should be fine. I would like to see whether the page starts to work after a chrome restart. Since the original report says going to the site without going through the SSO portal that uses camera works, I would expect the browser hang to go away after chrome restart. Another thing to try is to use a page that uses camera (e.g. https://simplewebrtc.com/demo.html), then try the page to see if the browser hangs. This is to see whether the hang is related to web camera use + the page.

Since the browser hang happens after restart, it seems that this is less likely related to the login. It probably would happen when go directly to the site too, e.g. after visiting the site a couple of times.

Observations: (1) we have two audio output streams:[1274:3622:1023/180421.452194:WARNING:audio_sync_reader.cc(195)] AudioSyncReader::Read timed out, audio glitch count=1 [1274:3631:1023/180421.452260:WARNING:audio_sync_reader.cc(195)] AudioSyncReader::Read timed out, audio glitch count=1 (2) "ASR: No room in socket buffer." means each of the two audio rendering threads on the renderer side does not read data requests from the socket in a timely manner. The fact that there are many of those messages means it does read periodically, (we do not log consecutive errors: https://cs.chromium.org/chromium/src/content/browser/renderer_host/media/audio_sync_reader.cc?type=cs&q=ASR:+No+room+in+socket+buffer&sq=package:chromium&l=167) - so it's not deadlocked. (3) "AudioSyncReader::Read timed out..." is a consequence of the above: renderer did not receive data request => it does not fulfill it. So it looks like renderer-side audio rendering threads are do not get enough of CPU time? Each audio output stream utilizes two threads with real-time priority (since it's 4 core system, and the work around is for 2 cores). So potentially it could be a more complex case of a priority inversion with the same root cause. Is it possible to get traces from the system (https://www.chromium.org/developers/how-tos/trace-event-profiling-tool/recording-tracing-runs) around the time it starts freezing?

Hmm, the "No room in socket buffer" message usually means something other than that the buffer is actually full (e.g. other end of socket is closed), but in this case, it may actually be the case that it's full (since it "recovers"). This would indicate a ridiculous number of glitches, so in that case, maybe we should just close the stream rather than hope it's going to start working? I see a MinidumpWriter in the stack traces (thread 25), does that indicate Chrome crashed while handling a crash? Ah, I see, it's a four-core machine, but it can likely only use two cores at a time (depends on model: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ARM_big.LITTLE#Run-state_migration). This means that the workaround linked in comment 18 doesn't apply, but the machine is still as vulnerable to issue 710245 as two-core machines.

Hey guys, hoping to offer more info on the bug / and will try to get you a trace output. How is the threading logic hooked up? Is it one thread for playing / one for loading? In most cases for the crash we aren't getting to play any audio, but audio had gone through a preloading loop through HowlerJS. We only see this crash through our dashboard, that has its own audio preloading / playing, and then navigating to a lesson that loads inside an iframe on the same page. Is there a bug in the iframe source code with audio hook up causing this issue? Both the dashboard and the lesson work fine directly, and work fine across other chromebooks. Only in this chromebook model do we see this issue, and only when viewed in context of the dashboard iframe. I'm going to run some tests loading audio through XHR requests instead to see if we get further. Thanks! Fabio

Updates from our application side: XHR requests didn't make a difference (howler was still present, but not being utilized). I can't get the trace output to work, It always crashes the system, and I'm not sure how to recover the output. I've found another peculiar datapoint, opening a tab on the chrome book pointing here https://howlerjs.com/#radio playing audio. Seems to result in no crashing in the app.... Trying to load that same sample, inside another iframe in the app/ playing in the app still lead to the crash. We removed audio out of the dashboard in some of our tests, this seems to prevent the crash in the loading stage, but we see application freezes during the activity 20-30 seconds long, but always seem to recover and not crash. Occasionally during the activity, audio stop's playing all together, no errors thrown in JS (audio plays for videos), and audio eventually recovers when we close the lesson and go back into it. If you can provide more info on how to get the trace logs out to you guys, even after a crash I can do that right now. Thanks, Fabio

Hey Guys, Getting you the trace outputs today. Having a lot of trouble with this, if I don't get a crash with the app, I get a crash when I click stop on the trace (takes a long time and eventually kills the tab) We did get a third N23 which is on version 56 of chrome, it is not failing. I got one crash out of it but it was not at all in the same area as the 59 crashes. The crash was also a lot hard to reproduce, and only happened while trace was running have not seen it since. We did reproduce the issue on v62 as well. Same as the 59, but instead of a full crash the Chromebook would freeze for extended periods of time and eventually come back. Is there a place where the trace logs can be found even after a system crash? Feel free to reach out via email or we can setup a slack channel to expedite the process Thanks, Fabio

audio folks, could you check out the trace file? Looks like AudioDestinationHandler::Render around 8398ms. AudioThread in browser is in "Sleeping" state. Browser main thread seems to be sending an input event (mouse?) to renderer before 8398ms and no events for a 10+ seconds.

The scheduler will schedule tasks on other CPUs based on heuristic load estimations, it's not so deterministic that any one event can be seen that causes it in the trace.

Re #35: Sorry, what update are you waiting on exactly? I guess only using two cores is a power-saving feature. It's unfortunate that it takes so long for the extra cores to kick in. Anyways, AudioDestinationHandler::Render taking several seconds means the good money is on this being the spinlock bug. It should be fixed by not calling the partition allocator from realtime threads (which should be enforced by DCHECKS).
