Stable Release Blog post comments - many things with javascript stop working on websites

Project Member Reported by gov...@chromium.org, Sep 27 2017

Issue description

Comments in Stable #61.0.3163.100 blog post:

* This version is really awful !!! many things with javascript stop working on websites. Reinstalling chrome or deleting cache doesn't work. It's definitly this version that does not work. Chrome was fine on my laptop until it updateded to the same version.

* Now having problems with existing JavaSCript
-Blinking javascript animation on some html elements
-Glitches on modal window overlays

Worked perfect on previous version.

* Yeah, seconding the comments pointing out Javascript issues. Have been working on an React/Redux webapp that has so far had great performance on Chrome, now it crashes the tab. No changes besides updating Chrome, still works in FF.

* problems with existing CSS !!!

jam@, could this be related to PlzNavigate?
jainabhishek@, are you seeing any spike in user reports?
pbommana@, do we have any related bug reports for this?

Note: Reporting here for tracking purpose as I see multiple updates in Release Blog post.

If you have specific repros, would be great to test it with & without plznavigate. some of the comments about animations, overlays, CSS etc wouldn't be related.

Another comment:
As Developers we are facing some troubles with Devexpress Control that uses Javascript. ASPXFileUploadControl is the one who stops working after update.

I don't think this is JavaScript/V8 related. The comments sound more like CSS/DOM issues. Looking at https://blog.chromium.org/2017/08/chrome-61-beta-javascript-modules.html there were some changes to the CSS engine.

Reading the blog post's comments (@govind could you please link the blog post in the OP next time?) - https://chromereleases.googleblog.com/2017/09/stable-channel-update-for-desktop_21.html - it seems to be a problem with scrolling, maybe scroll anchoring in jQuery? There also seems to be several mentions of problems with

There was an intent to implement for Scroll Anchoring Serialization filed by pnoland@ a while back, perhaps he can investigate further for the scrolling thing.

Also adding foolip@ in case he can investigate flickering modal windows.

I suspect the reported anchor scrolling problems were the result of crbug/769174, which has been fixed for M63.
