Flickering when animating opacity property using js

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/62.0.3202.29 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
Go to https://jsfiddle.net/pcmz48p0/

What is the expected behavior?
A "2.0" logo appears, greyed over.

What went wrong?
There is a consistent white diagonal line down the element and flickering white pixels.

Did this work before? Yes M60

Does this work in other browsers? Yes

Chrome version: 62.0.3202.29  Channel: beta
OS Version: 10.0
Flash Version:

Workaround: setting `will-change: opacity` on the animated element removes the flicker.
