Chrome does not detect login/password fields for password manager integration

Reported by alexkf...@gmail.com, Sep 25 2017

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/61.0.3163.100 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
We are building a web application that requires the user to sign-in. When the user signs in, Chrome's password manager isn't invoked.

What is the expected behavior?
Chrome password manager should prompt stating "Would you like to save your password"

What went wrong?
Chrome doesn't prompt. This is the only browser that has issues. All other browsers work fine.

Did this work before? No

Does this work in other browsers? N/A

Chrome version: 61.0.3163.100 Channel: stable
OS Version: 10.0
Flash Version:

We are using polymer components for the login/password fields which make use of the shadow dom. When polymer is used it doesn't work. If the login/password fields are converted to "<input ..." this works. But we definitely want our login page to use polymer. At the core layer the polymer components are converted to "<input ..." and the only difference I see between getting this to work and not is that in the failure case the input element resides in the shadow dom while the working case does not.

Is it possible to debug this if I send you screen shots? The code we are
working on is currently in development stage and hasn't been deployed.
