Issue descriptionApp Version: 62.0.3202.29 beta iOS Version: iOS 11.0 Device: iPad Pro 12’5 , iPad Air - iPad’s ONLY URL: Precondition: Add Chrome-Suggested sites and Chrome Quick Actions to Today’s view. Content Suggestions are Enabled. Steps to reproduce: 1. Launch app, Go to any website 2.Swipe down today’s view and tap on “New Search” from Chrome-Quick Actions Observed Results: NTP is not smooth when it opens.It flickers. Expected results: NTP should open smoothly. Number of times you were able to reproduce: 5/5 Bug reproducible after clean install: Yes Bug reproducible after clearing cache and cookies: Yes Bug reproducible on Chrome Mobile on Android:NA Bug reproducible on Safari/Firefox: Firefox: NA, Safari: NA Bug reproducible on current stable build (App Version, iOS Version): M61- New Feature Bug reproducible on the current beta channel build (App Version, iOS Version):M62- Yes Type-bug-regression? I think the real bug here is the omnibox which should be focused.

Assigning to lod as it is probably related to the widget not focusing the omnibox on iPad. Reassign back to me if it is related to NTP.

I just checked and I can confirm I don't see a flickering issue, but I do see the omnibox not focusing issue.

The fix for the omnibox not focusing is in this CL: https://chromium-review.googlesource.com/c/chromium/src/+/645347 This is why it's only failing on 62 and not 63.
