This has to do with color correction blink is now doing. You likely have a color profile in Linux that doesn't match the color profile of your monitor.

Please check for color profiles and report back on your findings. If you have a color profile that you think is correct, please include it in the bug report.
Thanks for comments!

First of all, this definitely was a Chrome problem.
All the content outside Chrome was shown correctly. This means in text editors and other browsers like Firefox. Also, address bar in Chrome was OK. It was only the web content. As everything else was displayed correctly, it had something to do with Chrome.

Before the problem appeared, I wanted to shut down my PC. Debian reported there was an update pending, which I let do before shutting down. However, the update wasn't installed, but rather PC went straight to shutdown and then booted again. Sometime during the boot it shut down.

I turned it on and started the shut down again. Same thing.

Third time, I checked in terminal what was to update and it was Chrome. I updated it manually.

Removing Chrome completely didn't help, because the problem persisted.

Since reporting the issue, things went back to normal somehow. Now everything works as expected. I didn't do anything but normally using the PC. There were no updates that I know of and I didn't change any setting. It is a complete mystery to me...

Thanks a lot for trying to help me! :)

Sound like you had a graphics card or graphics driver issue tickled by Chrome. I've seen this myself in the past.

Thanks very much for responding. We'll close the bug but if you see the problem again you can re-open it.

The issue here is that there is a color profile installed that is telling Chrome to draw things more "purple". You'll see this in any applications that respect the _ICC_PROFILE X atom (e.g, Eye of Gnome, or gimp-when-color-profile-reading-is-enabled).

Copying from the parent bug:

If colors look wrong on Chrome, you should
- install a color profile that you prefer, or uninstall your profile
  - this can be done by running
     xicc /usr/share/color/icc/colord/sRGB.icc
  - or
     xprop -root -remove _ICC_PROFILE
- in Chrome 61
  - disable color correct rendering in about:flags
  - this option will go away in Chrome 62
- in Chrome 62+
  - set "force color profile" to "sRGB" in about:flags
  - this option will stay forever
