Chrome crashes ALL THE TIME

Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:55.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/55.0 Steps to reproduce the problem: About 95% of the time doing ANYTHING in Chrome will cause it to crash. Just starting it up or trying to display its own Settings panel. But occasionally, just occasionally, it works. I do nothing between the two. It is almost as if it is time orientated but I haven't worked out the pattern. What is the expected behavior? Well, I kinda expect Chrome to work. I have had to go back to using Firefox which, I have to say, is better than I remember. What went wrong? The Aw Snap page might be slightly funny to you guys but it is damn annoying if that is the only thing Chrome ever puts out. Crashed report ID: 3d0001ec-2090-4852-9215-df72b7fc5bfa How much crashed? Whole browser Is it a problem with a plugin? No Did this work before? Yes No idea but I have been using Chrome for a year or two with no issues then, about two weeks ago something changed Chrome version: Version 61.0.3163.91 (Official Build) (64-bit) Channel: n/a OS Version: Windows 7 Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 27.0 0.130 Chrome is unusable but on the plus side I am finding that I like Firefox again.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I have Norton Internet Security (version 22.10.1.10) installed. Sorry about the crash Id....the correct Id is 'Uploaded Crash Report ID ae862cc10f63e56c (Local Crash ID: 3d0001ec-2090-4852-9215-df72b7fc5bfa)' There are no specific steps to create this. Most of the time it crashes, sometimes it doesn't. If it does crash it crashes immediate regardless of what is being displayed. Any page will cause a crash, even my home page which is Google or the Chrome settings page. I'm afraid we don't use Chrome on any other machines. My Wife prefers Firefox on her Windows machine and clearly she uses something else on her iPad.

The system has rebooted a number of times and this problem still happens (most of the time). There aren't hardly any extensions enabled - essentially just Norton Antivirus.

Unfortunately Chrome just seems to crash all the time when I start it now so I'm guessing the only way I can do this is to actually uninstall Chrome somehow and then reinstall it from scratch. I might get round to that eventually but right now I think am quite happy with Firefox. This experience has certainly made Chrome go WAY down in my opinion. Any software that can't even run until it gets to the main window is pretty poor. Stack trace of attached crash id: ae862cc10f63e56c is extension process related and nothing much there to triage this issue further. Thread 11 (id: 86184) CRASHED [EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION_READ @ 0xffffffffffffffff ] Stack Quality0%Show frame trust levels 0x76eeb2f5 (ntdll.dll + 0x0004b2f5 ) 0x76eb7a0f (ntdll.dll + 0x00017a0f ) Stack quality is 0%, hence cc'ing ivanpe@ for more inputs on this.

Re comment #11. The symbols for ntdll.dll were missing. I requested reprocessing of the crash report with symbols and now the stack trace is showing up (http://crash/ae862cc10f63e56c): Thread 11 (id: 86184) CRASHED [EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION_READ @ 0xffffffffffffffff ] MAGIC SIGNATURE THREAD Stack Quality82%Show frame trust levels Context 0x76eeb2f5 (ntdll.dll + 0x0004b2f5 ) RtlCaptureContext CFI 0x76eb7a0f (ntdll.dll + 0x00017a0f ) RtlUnwindEx CFI 0x76ee947b (ntdll.dll + 0x0004947b ) local_unwind CFI 0x000007fefcef207c (KERNELBASE.dll + 0x0002207c ) BasepComputeDllPathWithOptions CFI 0x000007fefcef272f (KERNELBASE.dll + 0x0002272f ) BasepGetDllPathWithOptions CFI 0x000007fefcef0088 (KERNELBASE.dll + 0x00020088 ) LoadLibraryExW CFI 0x000007fefcedc7a0 (KERNELBASE.dll + 0x0000c7a0 ) LoadLibraryExA CFI 0x76d96543 (kernel32.dll + 0x00016543 ) LoadLibraryA CFI 0x00090012 <<<==================== Scan 0x76d959cc (kernel32.dll + 0x000159cc ) BaseThreadInitThunk CFI 0x76eca560 (ntdll.dll + 0x0002a560 ) RtlUserThreadStart There seem to be an issue within the LoadLibraryA frame. So there seem to be some stack corruption in the LoadLibraryA frame, but I don't know what might have caused it.

Is this still happening?

To be honest I am not sure. It was happening right up to the point where I upgraded my server. Chrome seems to run fine on my new machine.
