Text selection is very hard to see

Reported by matthias...@gmail.com, Sep 18 2017

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/61.0.3163.91 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. upgrade from Kubuntu 16.04 to Ubuntu 17.04
2. Accidentally remove 90% of kde stuff, as some package broke all the kde stuff from 16.04 to 17.04.
3. in the process some kde stuff is replaced with gnome stuff
4. restart, and open chrome

What is the expected behavior?
Selection background is blue (or contrasted even if os style says otherwise), and text color is no longer black.

What went wrong?
Selection bg in chrome is white, and the text characters change from any color to light grey, unless it is the omnibox, then the grey changes to black, and the site host is impossible to tell if you have selected(changes from black -> black)

Did this work before? N/A

Chrome version: 61.0.3163.91 Channel: stable
OS Version: Ubuntu 17.04
Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 27.0 r0

Don't have Ubuntu upgrade set up as of now to test and confirm this, since this mentions selection tentatively adding Blink>Editing>Selection for help in further triaging or debugging of this

Components: -Blink>Editing>Selection UI>Browser>Themes
Route to UI>Browser>Themes, because it seems color settings from desktop environment
has insane colors for selection foreground color and background color.

A borked desktop environment seems like a use case not worth bending over backwards for.
Oh, it is a borked gnome theme don't know what is up with my install.

but chrome should probably warn the user, well, that would be nice, this is now a minor feature request.

Also, if i change chromes userdata dir, then it gets setup the correct way, a once in a system setup thing, but should check each time the user runs chrome, as the system config could have changed

This is the bug, as you can see, it also affects the ubuntu users and groups dialogue, must be my system... idk how anyone is ever going to reproduce this bug.....

The usual policy is to blindly follow the system theme, even if it would result in eg. unreadable selection text.

There are some themes that have very low contrast between text and background, so it's difficult to differentiate correct behavior from a buggy theme. For that reason, it's unlikely we will consider a warning that the theme is bugged, so I'm closing this issue out.
If any of you want to test it, install the "Orion" theme for gtk-2 and gtk-3, for some reason the selection is hard to see(probably because ubuntu is themed dark, not light)
