||||||
Issue descriptionChrome Version: 61.0.3163.73 OS: iOS What steps will reproduce the problem? User lives in China but not able to set Bing as default search in Chrome for iOS. User only see "Google", "Baidu", "Sogo", and "360"as options. We have not seen this from in-app feedback yet. Vinutha do you mind checking if you can repro this issue today? If you can't finish maybe Pramod can pick up in HYD time zone later.

This is intentional: https://cs.chromium.org/chromium/src/components/search_engines/template_url_prepopulate_data.cc?q=engines_CN&sq=package:chromium&l=147 I don't know the reasoning for why, but pkasting or mpearson might.

I'm not comfortable elaborating on the specific engines we have or why in a discoverable forum. The lack of Bing in this case is both intentional and consistent with our policies that govern the DSE choices in all countries. Data behind this specific case was last reconsidered a few years ago, so if you believe the situation has changed significantly in the past few years, it may be appropriate to reconsider. In that case, we'd probably want to do a broader, worldwide re-review as a separate bug.

Hello Team, I'm also a user from China, Bing is a very useful option for us as we cannot use Google with standard network. And I just saw your source code in https://cs.chromium.org/chromium/src/components/search_engines/template_url_prepopulate_data.cc?q=engines_CN&sq=package:chromium&l=147, could you please add Bing as one option in // China const PrepopulatedEngine* const engines_CN[] = { &google, &baidu, &sogou, &so_360, }; or provide a function to change the region of Chrome? Thanks and best regards, Frank |
