Unlike video, this isn't blocked by 678663 since every audio frame is a keyframe. There are some technical risks around the quality of our video-only playback path, but nothing that would block this. E.g., Today we allow underflow for video-only sources, for which pause-and-buffer doesn't feel quite as good as allowing varispeed playback.

This issue has been Available for over a year. If it's no longer important or seems unlikely to be fixed, please consider closing it out. If it is important, please re-triage the issue.
