Improve searching for all data |
|||||
Issue descriptionSteps to reproduce: 1. Go to https://chromiumdash-staging.googleplex.com/commits 2. Click the Arrow Down to do advanced query. 3. Delete contents of Username field 4. Type in a SHA1 in the Git hash field. 5. Click Search 6. Try to clear the commit field. Expected result: There should be a simple way of clearing the search-field or going back to "default search" (i.e. search for my own user). Actual result: Click Arrow Down (clicking the 'x' here just closes the search dropdown), Go to Git hash field, mark everything in the field, delete the text, click search. Also, clicking at "Commits" in the menu to the left also does not clear the content, and neither does clicking "bugs" and then "commits" again.

Retitling this to reflect my current thinking here. I think it might be best to have a search box at the top of Chromium Dash (in the toolbar) which allows you to enter a hash, username, repo, version, whatever - and get routed to the right page. This would require refactoring a bit more UI (e.g. we'd need to move the platform selection and page title around) but seems like it'd be more user friendly. nyquist@, thoughts?

Yeah, I think having a shared search bar makes total sense.

Note request from soon to be duped issue 817090 - support searching for partial usernames. That said, I think implementing this might require full text searching support across everything, which would be pretty challenging in the short term.
