Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_11_6) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/61.0.3163.79 Safari/537.36 Example URL: https://i.imgur.com/Ph9gBn7.gifv Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. https://i.imgur.com/Ph9gBn7.gifv 2. That's it 3. What is the expected behavior? GIF plays What went wrong? Most of the time, GIFs do not load in Chromium. Even with all extensions turned off, and even in a brand new Person/user. Does it occur on multiple sites: Yes Is it a problem with a plugin? No Did this work before? Yes Unknown. A month or two ago. Does this work in other browsers? Yes Chrome version: 61.0.3163.79 Channel: stable OS Version: OS X 10.11.6 Flash Version: The problem does not occur in Chrome or any other browser as far as I know, and it doesn't happen on every site. GIFs hosted on imgur.com won't load, for example, but giphy.com GIFs do. I can also load GIFs using the Imagus plugin, which enlarges thumbnails by mousing over them. Example: 1) Install Imagus extension 2) Go to Reddit.com 3) Mouse over any thumbnail of a GIF RESULT: GIF plays fine via Imgus plug-in upon mouseover 4) Click on the image to load it in the browser window RESULT: GIF will not load

Roger that. So then, Chromium is missing that component that is automatically a part of Chrome? How do I get the video decoder? And wouldn't this also prevent other kinds of videos from playing too? I've never had problems with a video file before. Just, apparently, with videos that "present as" GIFs.

@robblackwelder -- Thanks for reporting this issue. Tested this issue on reported Chrome version #61.0.3163.79 and latest Canary #63.0.3213.3 on Mac 10.12.6 and not able to reproduce the issue. Also tried by installing Imagus extension, but could not reproduce the. Please find the screencast attached and let us know if we have missed anything. Could you please try by removing all the other extensions and creating a new profile to verify if the issue still persists. Thanks in advance.

Imgur is most likely using H264 which is not enabled on Chromium by default. If you want the decoder you will need to compile Chromium yourself.

So if I'm understanding this correctly, H264 is enabled on Chrome, but not on Chromium?

Also, if it's working for you, and not for me, that doesn't actually seem to be the problem, right? So what else might it be? |
