jamin.collins@ - can you please file feedback directly from the Cast action in Chrome? Right-click on the Cast icon in the toolbar (or Chrome menu) and choose "Report an Issue", and include this bug number in the description please. Please report back here once you've done that so we can take a look at the logs.

Selecting "Report an issue" does nothing. The right-click menu simply closes. I'll try disabling some extensions (uMatrix and others) and see if I can either get "Report an issue" or the casting itself to work.

Thank you for providing more feedback. Adding requester "skonig@chromium.org" to the cc list and removing "Needs-Feedback" label. For more details visit https://www.chromium.org/issue-tracking/autotriage - Your friendly Sheriffbot

Even with all extensions disabled[1] chromium can not see the Chromecast Ultra and "Report and issue" still does nothing. [1] - all existing chromium processes killed (pkill -9 chrom; pgrep -fa chrom) and chromium started with "--disable-extensions --disable-plugins"

jamin.collins@: Chromium by default does not load the MR extension (which is needed to discover devices and cast) by default. Could you enable the --load-media-router-component-extension flag in chrome://flags, reload the browser and try again? (please also remove the --disable-extensions switch)

That appears to have fixed the issue with Chromium being able to see the Chromecast Ultra. However, enabling that extension seems to make the browser extremely unstable. As I've tried twice now to write this entry and each time the browser has completely crashed. Restarting the browser is not possible until I launch it with the '--disable-extensions --disable-plugins' options exit and restart it. Additionally, while the casting *does* start and *does* display the requested item (tab or desktop) initially. After a very short while the display from the Chromecast freezes and then indicates that it lost connection. The console output when chromium crashes looks like this: $ chromium [15891:15891:0912/065805.454951:ERROR:background_mode_manager_aura.cc(13)] Not implemented reached in virtual void BackgroundModeManager::EnableLaunchOnStartup(bool) [15891:15891:0912/065806.427274:ERROR:display_info_provider_aura.cc(31)] Not implemented reached in virtual void extensions::DisplayInfoProviderAura::UpdateDisplayUnitInfoForPlatform(const display::Display&, extensions::api::system_display::DisplayUnitInfo*) [12:144:0912/065806.753114:ERROR:adm_helpers.cc(62)] Failed to query stereo recording. Thanks for the additional info. Is the Chromium you are using part of the Linux distro? If so, it is possible that the distro introduced some changes that caused it to become unstable with MR extension enabled. If that is the case, could you please try upgrading your distro, or try to use Chrome instead?
,
Sep 16 2017
Yes, the chromium binary I'm using is from the Arch distribution's package repository. There are a few patches applied, the are listed here: https://git.archlinux.org/svntogit/packages.git/tree/trunk?h=packages/chromium Arch is a rolling distro, there isn't a newer release to upgrade to. However, I do keep the installation up to date. I have tried Chrome and while it seems more stable (browser doesn't crash with MR enabled) it also can not seem to keep a stream of the desktop or a tab running.

Based on what we can tell, this appears to be specific to the Arch distro. Would recommend following up with them. |
