Even when disabled on the keyboard vox still activates on the home screen. And it shouts at me. Embarrassing in a library! Did this work before? Hello, Our developer is actively looking into this. At this time, we suspect that the problem lies in the interaction between your ChromeBook and any ARC apps used through the Google Play store. Please try this as a workaround while we work on a more comprehensive fix: 1. Go to Settings 2. Search for 'Android' 3. Select the Play Store in the search results 4. Select Disable Play Store The screen reader settings associated with the Play Store should stop speaking at this point. If any screen readers persist, please try hitting ctrl + alt + z one more time to turn off ChromeVox. After everything is off, you can enable the Play Store again and see if it works as expected. Please send me any further details about your situation, thanks! I will update this issue as I get more information. Thanks, Laura

Hi, thank you for reporting the issue. What do you mean by "home screen"? Does it mean login screen?

Hello Laura, thx for info. Please specify me if at point 4. you mean to "remove play store" because i cannot find a a "disable play store" option there. If i am going to remove the play store i will have than to redo the update of my chromebook; would the play store be back again? More over with this "solution" i will lose some data for sure ... Waiting your feedback, Best regards, L.B. Il 28 set 2017 11:29 PM, "lebe… via monorail" <monorail+v2.1340155778@ chromium.org> ha scritto:

No not the home screen. The problem arises with android apps only. Chrome OS apps seem to be OK. Netflix for example activates Vox but once a movie is playing Vox is gone. Thanks James

Thank you for the reply! If it happens only with Android apps, it should be the case where TalkBack is left enabled. TalkBack is used for Android apps on Chromebook. We are working on this issue. Thanks!

Hi everyone, Please try using your ChromeBook in the beta channel and let me know if this is improved. We implemented a fix that is in the Beta and Dev channels now so we'd appreciate your input. Instructions on changing your channel can be found here: https://support.google.com/chromebook/answer/1086915?hl=en Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks, Laura

Hello, Thanks for reporting that the powerwash helped. However, I'd really like to know if our fix is working for you to allow you to get back to using apps from the Play Store. Please try changing your channel to Dev or Beta and let me know if this issue is still happening for you. Instructions on changing your channel can be found here: https://support.google.com/chromebook/answer/1086915?hl=en Thanks, Laura

Hey guys but what kind of solution can be "doing a powerwash" = erasing all your data from Chromebook + "deactivating the Play store"? We waited more than 1 year to get the play store up and working in our Chromebooks and now you pretend to stop our Crhomebook speaking all time like a crazy old grandmother by stepping back 2 years? Do you have no better solution? I could find the solution you describe by myself or just by stepping to a pc or a mac. So please work on the issue and deactivate this ... "nice voice" always on! Waiting your kind feedback!!! Lorenzo Bozzoli 2017-10-12 6:10 GMT+03:00 lebe… via monorail < monorail+v2.1340155778@chromium.org>:

please look into "google text-to-speech" latest update. i uninstalled to stock version and it seemed to have temporarily halted the unsolicited voice feedback. note that when android apps were enabled, the play store automatically installed and updated both "google text-to-speech" and "google talkback." neither of these functions have settings that can be controlled on a chromebook.

Hello I switched from beta channel to stable cahnnel and I noticed no change. In both cases chromevox is up and running as soon as you have the play store installed. Any solution at the horizon? Lorenzo Bozzzoli

I changed to beta and the problem persists. Back to stable. Is this a problem with Kevin only? Vox activates on all buttons. for example "Unnamed button" "Close button, Double click to activate" I'm not aware of buttons requiring a double click

I have same issue on Lenovo N22. Removing play store does fix the issue. Switching to the beta channel (with play store installed) does not fix the issue. The issue is constrained to android apps running on the chromebook. As playstore starts it announces 'using google to text to speech engine'. Android settings show no services for accessibilty configured. Trying then (on Beta channel) to remove Play Store fixes the problem. Adding the play store again revets and the text to speach (talkback) is re-enabled.

Hello, A bug is fixed as of Chrome 63 that should have resolved this issue of the screen reader speaking in Android apps even when ChromeVox is off. If that was the root cause of this issue, please update your Chromebook and try again. If you're still having trouble, please reopen this issue with more information. Thanks! Here is an article on updating: https://support.google.com/chromebook/answer/177889?hl=en Thanks, Laura
