Bookmark sync not working - receiving "CreateSyncNode" error

Reported by smg...@gmail.com, Aug 31 2017

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/60.0.3112.113 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Turn "Sync All" on in settings
2. Allow sync to occur
3.

What is the expected behavior?
Bookmarks should be syncing between devices

What went wrong?
At the top of Sync Internals (chrome://sync/) I get a red box with the error below and my bookmarks are not synced:

Error: CreateSyncNode@c:\b\c\b\win64_pgo\src\components\sync_bookmarks\bookmark_change_processor.cc:311, datatype error was encountered: Failed to create sync node.

Did this work before? No

Chrome version: 60.0.3112.113 Channel: stable
OS Version: 10.0
Flash Version:

I can sync by turning sync off then Resetting sync and turning it back on. It will sync correctly the first few times then I receive the error.

Interesting. It'd be the easiest for me to debug if I could reproduce this locally. Do you think, when you get into this state, you could could copy and attach to this bug, the files at <Profile Path>/Bookmarks and <Profile Path>/Sync Data/SyncData.sqlite3? You should be able to find your profile path by opening the URL chrome://version/ .

Before I investigate, have you been making manual modifications to your Bookmarks file? Or have any extensions that might be changing things?

I did manually modify my bookmarks file a few months ago to recover some deleted bookmarks. Your comment reminded me of that so I reinstalled Chrome and the sync has been working good for a few days now. That must have been the cause of the problem. Thanks.
