chrome headless has issue with web GL OES_texture_float extension

What steps will reproduce the problem?

I am trying to take screenshot of a webpage using chrome in headless mode. It works fine for most of the cases but for some pages which use OES_texture_float extension it fails.
e.g. this url is working fine in browser https://ad.doubleclick.net/5326134/1487760940377/index.html but in the headless mode.

1. Open terminal and type google-chrome --headless --remote-debugging-port=9222  https://ad.doubleclick.net/5326134/1487760940377/index.html

2. Open browser and navigate to http://localhost:9222/

3. Check the error in console which says "Your browser does not support WebGL, the OES_texture_float extension"

What is the expected result?
It should give the screenshot of the page.

What happens instead of that?
It gives empty screenshot.


Please provide any additional information below. Attach a screenshot if
possible.

I'm guessing the error here is just that WebGL is not available in Headless. I don't think the extension has anything to do with it.
Tested on my mac and WebGL _is_ available (on this machine) in Headless. So something is still probably broken.

Please provide about:gpu from Chrome running on the machine where you're running Headless and where OES_texture_float isn't available in Headless. Thanks.

Just to add to this, in headless mode many web GL features are working and I am able to take screenshot, but not this OES_texture_float.

Headless uses SwiftShader on Linux and the real GPU on Mac. I would expect SwiftShader to support OES_texture_float -- anyone know for sure?

I'd assume the same. Are floating-point textures renderable in SwiftShader if it provides OES_texture_float? WebGL delegates this renderability check to the implementation.

I verified this on Mac and it is working. So the problem is only on Linux.

SwiftShader supports floating-point textures and draw buffers. For example this demo runs fine: http://tiansijie.github.io/Tile_Based_WebGL_DeferredShader/

Sameer, could you try running with --disable-gpu? That will force it to use SwiftShader for WebGL support.
I tried this
google-chrome --headless --disable-gpu --screenshot https://ad.doubleclick.net/5326134/1497267941475/index.html

But got empty screenshot and same error in debug mode.
"Your browser does not support WebGL, the OES_texture_float extension"

Somewhere along the line this started working, possibly when SwiftShader was integrated as Headless' WebGL backend. I don't know how to get Headless to display the contents of about:gpu (it displays lots of errors of the following form) but here's a screenshot of this working on Linux with 70.0.3534.4 (Official Build) dev (64-bit).
