Android Apps cause freeze, black screen and reset

Reported by pepijnde...@gmail.com, Aug 27 2017

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; CrOS x86_64 9765.31.0) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/61.0.3163.51 Safari/537.36
Platform: 9765.31.0 (Official Build) beta-channel quawks

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Open some tabs (using resources)
2. Open a bunch of Android apps
3. Do stuff in said apps

What is the expected behavior?
The apps function as normal

What went wrong?
Anything from frozen apps, a black screen and even a complete reset. If it recovers from the freeze, usually the mouse pointer becomes a black square when inside an android window, it also produces rendering glitches.

Crashed report ID: 44ae3b0862f56e11

How much crashed? Whole browser

Is it a problem with a plugin? No

Did this work before? N/A

Chrome version: 61.0.3163.51 Channel: beta
OS Version: 9765.31.0
Flash Version:

I thought it might be the OOM killer coming after me, but looking into this this appears not to be the case as I don´t see any tabs being closed or OOM messages in syslog.

If it freezes and comes back it sometime does appear to kill some apps. (or seset the whole system after a minute) The rendering glitches make me wonder if i´m maybe running out of *graphic* memory?
I've attached a screenshot that shows much of the chrome not drawing and seemingly random pieces of graphic memory being used as icons.

But I've since seen similar glitches without starting any Android apps. This has not happened before switching to the beta channel. Maybe it is a regression unrelated to Android?

I think this is a GPU memory thing, but I dunno for sure. I am having similar issues, though.

I also used to have issues very much like this on an old Macbook Pro that has a known flawed nvidia chip, and when copying data to/from internal and dedicated GPU memory, sometimes these kinds of things would happen.

FWIW: Version 61.0.3163.90 (Official Build) beta (64-bit)

I think the following are related issues: 758948, 766799
