In that screenshot, are you currently on www.google.de? If so, this is working as intended: the current page URL is always supposed to be shown as a suggestion upon omnibox focus. (In general, if the omnibox displays some text, it will be displayed as a suggestion immediately below the omnibox. In this case, the omnibox displays the text www.google.de.) It's only omitted if you focus on the omnibox on a page without a displayable URL (i.e., the new tab page).

Hello mpearson@, Thank you for your feedback. You say, it is working as intended that the current page URL is always supposed to be shown as a suggestion upon omnibox focus. So as I understand from your comment now, this applies only, if I have an URL in the clipboard, right? Because without an URL in the clipboard, the Result List shows suggestions only if I type the first letter into the Omnibox. Can I ask, why the current URL from the Omnibox is shown when I have an URL in the clipboard and it is not shown when I have nothing in the clipboard? Thanks for your feedback in advance. Mehmet

Oh, yes, thanks for clarifying what I mean. When the omnibox dropdown is open, then whatever text is shown in the omnibox should be shown as a suggestion in the dropdown. If the current page URL is the text in the omnibox, then it gets shown in the dropdown. I agree this is slightly odd when the user didn't explicitly do anything to get the dropdown to open (e.g., started typing). It's mostly a constraint that came over from desktop; we didn't think it out in the context of mobile where clipboard provider is active. On Android, this current page suggestion appear in the omnibox dropdown a lot because we nearly always open the omnibox dropdown when the user focusses on it. (On Android we show the user's most visited pages as suggestions in addition to clipboard suggestions if any.) In this setting, I haven't heard any complaints about it. (Indeed, people seem to use the omnibox to reload the current page a lot. I just don't know if they tap on the suggestion on press enter on the software keyboard.) I'm reluctant to remove the current URL suggestion only when clipboard suggestions appear and not other suggestions. That feels inconsistent. But I also don't want to remove it entirely because I have a sense that it's useful. So I'm left with the feeling that showing it all the time if the best answer, even if it can at times look odd.

I guess you're marking it as assigned to get it out of a queue. I want to be clear, though, that I think likely answer to this report is WontFix, unless we have evidence, UI, or PM guidance to the contrary.

No. I think comment #4 summarizes the situation well from my perspective. |
