Files modified by ARC++ apps have fewer open and share options than "regular" files

Project Member Reported by mcirimele@chromium.org, Aug 24 2017

Issue description

What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1) Modify a file in an ARC++ app and save it. I changed a .jpg in Snapseed.
(2) Open Files app and go to the "recent" folder.
(3) Select the modified file.

What is the expected result?
The file has the same options for opening or sharing it as a non-ARC++ file.

What happens instead?
There are no sharing options (button isn't shown) and fewer applications listed than for a file of the same type downloaded from the browser.

See attached screenshots.

Additional note - I noticed that these are NOT virtual files which I know are handled separately per crbug.com/740063 . Can you let me know why image files are handled differently?

I believe this is fixed once ARC virtual file support is landed in Issue 740063 .

Comment 5 by nya@chromium.org, Aug 29 2017

#c1: Files in media views are virtual files. So if a file in Recent originates from media views, it does not have share buttons, just similarly as those in media views.

nya@ - Got it! Thanks for clarifying :)

Although virtual file support will fix this issue, as we commented on Issue 760869 , it is more efficient to implement ConvertPathToArcUrl() specialized for media views since those files are backed by content:// URLs and Android does not need to talk to Chrome to read those files.

Here's an example resolving FileSystemURL of media views into content:// URL:

Hi nya@,

The remaining work you mentioned in comment #10 (ConvertPathToArcUrl() specialized for media views) is the fix for issue 748186 .
Do I understand correctly?

If so, I'll mark this as Fixed and leave the remaining work for issue 748186 .

I guess this is simply a duplicate of issue 748186 ?

It can be, but let me mark this as a duplicate of 740063, since the original bug description is about opening files in Recent. It was already fixed by the fix for issue 740063 .
Thanks!

This issue is still existing on CrOS version: 10431.0.0, 66.0.3352.0 dev-channel eve.
Let me mark this as duplicate of Issue 816678 as 'Open with' and Sharing options are still available for Media folders. Hence files modified through ARC++ apps and opening them from Recent root doesn't display open with and sharing options.
