about:media-internals page should show MSE events |
|||||
Issue descriptionIt would be nice to see and filter all MSE related events in internal about:media-internals. Here'a a list to start with of new MSE properties : - mse_sourceopen - mse_sourceended - mse_sourceclose - mse_updatestart - mse_update - mse_updateend - mse_error - mse_abort

Interesting idea. We'd probably want to make such logging opt-in to prevent spamming the logs. I chatted with Dan and we wonder if something like EME logger (https://developers.google.com/web/updates/2015/09/eme-logger) (but for MSE) would be a good alternative (or complementary) approach (though such wouldn't immediately work on Android, but Dan had some ideas for follow-on approaches that might help there). An MSE logger extension could go a long ways to help developers, but it wouldn't interleave events in the rest of the media-internals logs. Nor would it have the benefit of differentiating possible event logs like "queued updateend" versus "dispatched updateend to JS app". Perhaps both an extension plus extra media-internals logging?? Or maybe Dan's follow-on approaches might afford a good hybrid. cc+=sandersd@ for comment

An opt-in checkbox in about:media-internals would be my favorite choice.
