Is this consistently reproducible?

I see reports with similar call stacks in 10.0.648.127 also.
Yep everytime it fails. I have to use the advanced video chat features in gmail labs to use video chat. The native one always crashes. It has been there for sometime now in the canary build. Never tested it on the stable one.

This is Cyberlink webcam software.

Possible fix with
http://codereview.chromium.org/6713039/

What is your webcam make/model?
Hp Webcam, inbuilt with hp laptop.
I have the exact same problem & symptoms. Flash works with other websites, but crashes when video chat is initiated. (HP laptop; built-in webcam. 64bit Win 7 Pro.) Error message displays after call times out (ringing guits), and then other party can see & hear me, but I can only hear them.

Also, Google chat does not work with my desktop PC, which uses firewire DV webcam. Nor does it work with WebCamMax or ManyCam or analog video capture card video sources. It does NOT crasdh under 32bit IE9, but video source simply doesn't work.
I've tried 3 HP's that worked: HP 311W with builtin HP Webcam-50, HP4110 and HP2100.

Kinda strange. I have tested it on two Hp dv6, one HP Pro book and Dell Inspiron. All have the same problem with Chrome canary build.
Are you using the native video chat on gmail? or the advanced one in gmail labs. Doesnt break with the advanced one.

i have hp laptop (dv4), built-in webcam, win7 also.
when i use google video chat, my browser would freeze, a window will pop up (i'm not sure what the message is as it's unclear), i cant do anything unless i hit 'ok'.
then at the top of browser, it'll say: "the following plug-in has crashed: shockwave flash"
I've tried uninstalling chrome and reinstalling ... as well as reinstalling shockwave flash... nothing is working...
Other people say they can see me, but i cant see them ... I tried using video chat on internet explorer browser, and it worked... however it's not working for chrome.
but my flash and everything seem to be working for other websites..
Thanks ismile.
Some work arounds:
1. run chrome with --disable-flash-sandbox
2. use an external webcam.
3. In gmail go to settings->Labs->Video Enhancements->enable->Save Settings.

Comment 15 by Deleted ...@, Apr 1 2011
#3 worked for me. Samsung laptop Windows 7. Thanks

Okay, we know #3 works ... avoid flash.
But we really do want to figure out why flash doesn't work.
We (chrome/talk), haven't reproduced this yet. Theres lots of you having the issue, but not enough info to fix it.

Today I tested Vista, but thats not the issue. MarkLe confirms that its on Windows7 as well.
So far everyone has laptops. HP and Samsung.

Is this an issue with Sandy Bridge? Flash 10.2 has GPU acceleration for rendering, so I'm wondering if thats broken the sandbox

Please be as specific as possible
Exactly what camera make/model do you have. Run this
http://juberti.googlepages.com/camcaps.zip
If you're on a laptop, specify the make/model.
What OS are you running? ie Windows 7 enterprise 64 bit

Could someone try --disable-flash-sandbox ? We're guessing its the sandbox.
Thanks!

Have HP Dv6 1361sb.
Core Duo Processor. (Exists with older processors too forget non sandy bridge processor)
Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.
Adobe Flash 10.2

The problem has been since Chrome Canary 10 for me at least. So as a workaround i started using the Gmail Labs advanced video chat. Havent tried run chrome with --disable-flash-sandbox workaround.

Have quite a few extensions though not sure if that is the problem. What is the command line for starting chrome without any extensions can try that and see if it works.

Native video chat works great with other browsers like IE9 on my PC.
--disable-flash-sandbox workaround works nicely with the native Gmail video chat.
I guess its the sandbox.

Are you using 'HP Web Camera Filter'?
Where did that come from? I have HP webcam's and laptops but haven't seen that? The webcam's (ie HP4110) come with 'Magic-i'
cpu has checked in 2 fixes that may solve this issue. Can someone experiencing the problem confirm the fix?
Get a 'canary' build of Chrome.
Try a video chat with echocall@bot.talk.google.com
Using Flash.
Also go into gmail settings -> Chat and do a 'Verify my Settings' and make sure that also doesn't crash.
Report back if it worked, and the version of Chrome you used.
The fix is for HP laptop cameras.
If you have something other than HP and are experiencing these symptoms, tells us the make/model of laptop/camera.
Nope not using HP webcam filter.
The problem still exists with the latest build version 12.0.722.0.
What if you dont use the filter?
In chat settings, use 'HP Webcam'
Not using filter. Using HP Webcam only.

@kanishk Thanks! 12.0.722.0 is an 03-Apr-2011 08:07 am build.
If you have an external webcam you could try it?

I tried a newer HP Dv6
Intel i3 processor
Windows 7
Chrome 10 stable worked ok.

Issue 69753 has been merged into this issue.
Tried the stable version Chrome 10. Shockwave plugin crashes and the page becomes unresponsive and get the popup error. Sorry no external cam :|

Getting the exact same error message here. Occuring from any number of Flash-related crashes: myspace music player, streaming video, etc. Interested to see where this goes. Really don't want to change browser and for usability and speed I'd pick Chrome hands-down, but it's becoming SO unstable...

Heading to send my error report now. Very odd though, as I'm getting this error on both my laptop (HP dv5-1015ea) and desktop (webcam model: logitech c270)...

I came from this post http://goo.gl/SSM3d and I have the same problem under Chrome beta or Canary (latest release both), Windows 7, using camera built in a G42-364LA HP notebook. I got Chinese characters and some words related to memory. I should also add the other person could see me but the only I got was the sad face, shockwave crashed icon. I am a heavy Chrome user but I used Firefox as a workaround and It worked fine in both ways (my image-other camera images).
Thanks.
Same error when trying to use Google Talk video chat or verify Video Chat settings.

Chrome 11.0.696.68 - Fail
IE9 - Ok
Firefox 3.6 - Ok

HP Pavilion dv6-2150us w/ integrated webcam
Intel Core i3 M330
Windows 7, 64-bit

I've attached both an error message and indication from Chrome that the plugin crashed. I also ran the CAMCAPS program and attached those results. Let me know if you need any further information.

Thanks,

1. Chrome version 12.0.742.60 beta-m
2. Windows 7 Professional 64-bits
3.crashes when I try to use gmail chat with video.
4. Crash ID f8c1af6e557da44b1.
5. steps to reproduce:Sign into gmail and start video chat

My shockwave never crashed until I updated to Chrome 10. Since then it's been horrible.

I received two pop up boxes.
the first is: "The Instruction at 0x1c415629 refereced memory at 0x00000000. The Memory could not be read. Click ok to terminate Program.

Then I receive the next pop up box: The following plug-in is unresponsive: Shockwave Flash. Would you like to stop it?

Lastly, the very top of the Chrome page, it says. :The Following Plug-in has Crashed: Shockwave Crash.

Anybody working on this ? How can you promote Google+ Hangout, if it is impossible to hang out with Chrome ? FF and IE no issues. Thanks.

I actually have the same issue, but it has nothing to do with video chat for me (or maybe it would, if I used it). I've had it happen twice now, both times when clicking on an embedded video.
Here's my version information, and I'm attaching a screenshot of the error. Let me know if you need anything else.

Would be interesting to know why we are receiving Chinese characters on English installs... getting this error also, does not occur on other installs located on other machines. Only started after visiting a site with a non-flash popup. Same Error.

The chinese translates to: Liu Gengxue Tongrunzhongjiao s ᡄ Ji proud Amoy 㗮 Nao ݴ Zi proud Amoy 뤄 Ping lowland swamp mud ᵝ Pi ᶎ Pi 㟌 Nao ➀ tears Nianhaoshanao never flooded 㪇 Nao 㨝 Nao ㉁ Nao 䏾 Nao Liunaojinao 뭍 Ping 䮘 Nao 䑜 Naoyinguzhu

I get exactly the same as comment 44.

Sometimes It only says shockwave has crashed.

I think it might have something to do with my webcam: Laptop_Integrated_Webcam_2M for alienware.
Comment 46 by cpu@google.com, Aug 3 2011
Can you check if the alienware camera software is actually made by Cyberlink ? if so it is the known problem with the cyberlink drivers.

We contacted them but they don't regard flash as a supported application.

Any update on this?

I am experiencing this issue when using Gmail Video Chat. I get the Chinese titled memory read error dialog others have mentioned. Computer info below:

HP Pavilion dv7 Integrate Webcam
Chrome 14.0.835.163
Windows 7

Enabling Labs->Video Enhancements works as a workaround, but I like the native Gmail Video Chat experience better.
Comment 52 by Deleted ...@, Sep 19 2011
I also found that I could work around the issue by downgrading my Flash version from 10,3,183,7 to 10,2,153,1 on the Chrome plugins page (chrome://plugins/).
Comment 53 by Deleted ...@, Sep 25 2011
I am facing the same problem during video chat.

Shock wave flash crash.

Google chrome > 14.0.835.186 m

But when i use other browser to video chat in gmail, it is ok.

Please fixed this as soon as possible.
Comment 54 by Deleted ...@, Oct 31 2011
When I try to initialize video chat or check my settings, the Shockwave Flash plug-in crashes. And as you can see, I don't have the "Labs" tab in my settings. My computer is a Fujitsu LifeBook AH530 with a built in 1.3 megapixel webcam and Windows 7 OS.

Hi, I am running Windows professional home version, Have Dell Inspiron, am using Google Chrome, when I click on Poppit or Entanglement, my system freezes and I get the "shockwave Crash" banner across top of screen....This happens 8/10 times...no issue when I use Skype or go to You Tube....I checked Adobe, and it indicates my SHockwave is installed properly....and there are no updates (as Google is to put out these updates?) Any specifics: WHY is this happening...what do I do?

@leroy.kahn - Thanks for the comment. From your crash ID, we were able to determine that your crash is actually related to Real Player, and that issue is being tracked at http://crbug.com/82459 . Can you post there instead?

@clubfishersd - This bug is specifically about a Flash while using Gmail video chat. Since your experience sounds different, can you post on a new/different bug? Make sure you have crash IDs handy (http://www.google.com/support/chrome/bin/answer.py?answer=107348).

@leyoy or @macciaw23 - are you attempting a video chat at the time of the shockwave crash?
yes - and it crashes. I saw the notes about going to Labs, Video
Enhancements, Enable, Save Settings, which I did. I then check the camera
settings under chat options and it was working. I believe this fix will
work for this external camera for now.

Plugin Crashed while trying to use Google Talk Video Chat

shockwave crash?
FYI - also- not only does the shockwave crash while attempting to connect,
IF THE CALL CONNECTS, which it randomly does or does not, I we/can still
talk and the other party can see me, I just can't see them. Therefore the
"crash" involves my system with the external camera, but it crashes my
ability to see the other person on my computer. As I said, I think the
Labs, enable Video Enhancements may help.

I solved the problem by installing Mozilla Firefox, during a moment of
desperation.
Then, I updated Shockwave and Flash through Mozilla.
This solved the problem on Chrome.
@marciaw23 - thanks. I've got a logitech c260 which is similar, on windows7 64 bit.  Haven't reproduced.  Driver difference?
Using the Video Enhancement Lab should resolve the issue for Talk. Althought not for Flash/Chrome in other apps
I've bought a c270 and tests with Chrome/Flash 11 on Windows XP 32 bit show no problem.

@marciaw23 - We're looking for a more recent reproducible case to pass onto Cyberlink since some of these issues may be caused by them not supporting Flash. Since you're the most recent reporter, would you mind testing something for me?

Can you temporarily turn off the Video Enhancement Lab in Gmail, and the next time Flash crashes (i.e. you get the Flash crashed message), obtain a crash ID? See http://support.google.com/chrome/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=107348 on how to locate it.

I have an HP Dv7-3160us and have had this problem for almost a year. I just uninstalled the HP MediaSmart Webcam software from my laptop and guess what... the webcam works with flash perfectly now! Looked like every time flash was calling the webcam it tried to kick of the MediaSmart software and would cause a fault then crash Chrome. Well now Gmail Video Chat, Omegle and other sites are working just fine now. Good luck!

Crashing with HP webcam in a dv-6
The issue should now be resolved for

2. 'Chat for Google' Chrome Extension

For gmail you'll still need a work around. ie
gmail->settings->Labs->Video Chat Enhancement->enable

Google Talk Video Chat no longer has a Shockwave crash, but theres been reports of a new Cyberlink crash relating to 'RGB24' frames.
In comments 17,33,34 camcaps
http://juberti.googlepages.com/camcaps.zip
shows RGB24
When I try youcam v5 I get:

RGB24: 1280 x 960 x 5
RGB24: 1600 x 1200 x 5
and YUY2 will be used, not RGB24. But even with RGB24 I havent seen the problem.

In Google Talk Plugin 3.3, I've added some camera frame validation, checking for illegal values that would cause a crash, and the crashes seem to have gone away. But users may see black frames instead?
Is anyone still seeing issues with Cyberlink and Google Talk Plugin?

This bug is obsolete due to our replacement of our sandboxed NPAPI Flash with Pepper Flash.

@82: That's a different problem and deserves a different bug.

@83: No response to your query, so I'm going to close this bug out.
Status: Fixed
@84 Pepper and NPAPI Flash have no impact on Google Talk Plugin, since its been reworked to not use Flash.
So for Talk, its fixed.
