Convertible Chromebooks (i.e. ones with tablet-style power buttons on their sides) turn off their screens immediately when their power buttons are tapped. If automatic screen locking is enabled, the screen is additionally locked.
We're discussing adding a short delay between the time when the screen is turned off and when it's locked to make it easier to "undo" accidental power button presses by tapping the button again.
We probably need to either make the delay configurable or add some additional UI to explain the delay. Otherwise, I fear that users will be confused if they enable automatic screen locking, try to test it out by tapping the power button twice, and don't see the screen get locked.
( Issue 571608 tracked a similar feature request, but for sleep rather than power buttons.)
