Omnibox popup opens on tab switch

Project Member Reported by brettw@chromium.org, Aug 14 2017

Issue description

I'm seeing the omnibox popup open by itself when I switch tabs, which is very annoying. I'm using Windows 62.0.3178.0. I'm not seeing it on Linux.

1. Go to a page where there are zero-suggest results. This one works:
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/big-ben-fall-silent-stop-london-parliament-repairs-great-clock-bell/

2. Focus the omnibox

3. Go to another tab

4. Switch back to the first tab. The omnibox popup will be unexpectedly open. There is also an occasional problem with focus in that clicking on the page doesn't close the omnibox.

Alternatively, this can be repro-ed without zero-suggest if you type a prefix in the URL bar (say "news"), switch to another tab, and then switch back. The popup will be up, but shouldn't be.

krb: Is it possible this has anything to do with your recent focus changes?

I doubt it. My change only affects how much is selected.

I tried ToT and the mentioned version on Windows, and couldn't duplicate it. Could this be an issue with the profile? (Could you try on a clean profile?)

This could be fixed on trunk, let's wait for the next dev release to verify.
I can still reproduce this on the latest dev version.

I think this is likely bug 751837 .

brettw@, if you can post your about:version information here, including the whole Variations: section, that would allow me to verify.

Chrome updated and it's not doing it any more. Either the bug is fixed or I have a different experiment:

Thanks for the about:version info. I see OmniboxBundledExperimentV1-Dev_Desktop_ZeroSuggestRedirectToChrome_Enabled_TitleFirst5 in the variations list. This is consistent with you being in the problematic experiment.
