Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_12_6) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/60.0.3112.90 Safari/537.36 Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. Go to any website in Chrome and copy the url 2. Go anywhere else within Chrome and try to paste that url (nothing happens, although menu flashed to signify the command request has been made) 3. Go to Chrome Edit menu and select Paste, as a fallback method to paste (nothing ends up being pasted). result is me having to What is the expected behavior? Expected behavior is to paste what I have copied into Clipboard. What went wrong? I have to paste URLs into a different app, then drag & drop into chrome every time I want to paste a URL. Happens about every other day. To resolve and get working again, I have to quit all my apps and restart the system. Then it works for a while, but at a certain point stops working. Happened just this morning - paste didn't work even though I just rebooted system. Did this work before? Yes Chrome version: 60.0.3112.90 Channel: stable OS Version: OS X 10.12.6 Flash Version: Very frustrating issue that happens to my colleague as well.

Unable to reproduce the issue on Mac OS 10.12.6 using chrome M60 #60.0.3112.101 and M62 #62.0.3187.0 . Able to copy/paste the url/content . Attached screencast for reference. @davidpanfili-- Could you please try in latest chrome stable with fresh profile without any extensions and flags enabled and update us with your observations. Thanks!

Sorry - issue is only with copy & paste is with Outlook 365 online. I checked out the other solutions about this, but they were for previous versions of Chrome and none of the solutions worked.

This continues to happen, but now it's much worse. Restarting system used to resolve the issue temporarily. Now I cannot copy/paste anything from Outlook web app. I have to use another browser to be able to work properly with Outlook.

@hdodda, do we have access to an Outlook 365 account for testing?

Hey everyone, any progress in resolving this bug?

Adding Omnibox component, in case it has to do with how the data is being put on the clipboard.

From what I can tell you need to be within an enterprise running Microsoft Exchange Server to get Outlook 365's web app; I tried my Office 365 account and it's not available as an option. To the original reporter: are you using this within an organization? Have you contacted your system administrators? Since it appears specific to Outlook's web app they may be able to report the issue to Microsoft. Other things to try: * Copy the URL, then switch to Finder and pick Edit > Show Clipboard - what does it report? * Did you try in a fresh profile as requested in comment #2? Extensions could be interfering with the behavior here. * Try in an Incognito window (Menu > New Incognito Window). This will require signing in again, but would prevent extensions from interfering.

Sometimes it's specific to Outlook 365 Online, but not always. It's random behavior, but very frequent. Even after rebooting, this behavior kicks in sometime within 10 minutes of loading browser.

Okay. Please try the other suggestions to help narrow it down - use Finder's Edit > Show Clipboard to inspect the clipboard contents (to try and narrow down if it's an issue on the "copy" side or the "paste" side), and try an Incognito window and/or fresh profile.

It could be issue with copy side of things. Clipboard shows last item copied before the copy/paste function breaks. I've already tested incognito and different profile, no luck.

Okay - if it's failing to *copy* from the URL bar that's an Omnibox issue. mpearson@ - any ideas? And just to confirm, the repro is still: select URL in URL bar, copy, check clipboard in Finder and the copy has failed? Is copying from within the web app similarly affected?

FWIW, https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7679531 seems to describe similar symptoms - copy/paste working after a restart, then failing. It hints at several things: * It's an OS issue, and when the issue manifests it affects apps seemingly at random. Chrome is one such app. * It can be exacerbated by clipboard helper apps that run at login, but also affects Safe Mode * And on the 4th page: it may be related to crashes of system processes (pboard, pbs) which may restart after a crash, but even after the processes come back other apps will need a manual restart.

> if it's failing to *copy* from the URL bar that's an Omnibox issue. > mpearson@ - any ideas? Nope. This sounds a bit like bug 764308 , which local testers couldn't reproduce on Chrome 63. (They didn't try reproducing on earlier versions, so who knows what that means.)

For the original reporter: If the problem manifests again, try copying and pasting between other apps (e.g. TextEdit). If that's working, try quitting and Chrome and see if copying/pasting works again. If that succeeds it would lend support to the problem indicated in #17. If you know how to use the Terminal app, you could also check to see if the affected process (pboard, pbs) have recently restarted when the problem occurs, but that's a difficult set of steps to explain.

Another set of steps to try if the problem occurs: 1. In Finder, go to Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor 2. Type "pboard" into the search box (top right), select the one result 3. Click Stop button (top left) 4. Restart Chrome 5. Try copy/paste again

@jsb - I've tried copying and pasting from other apps. Even tried highlighting text and dragging into Outlook but that doesn't work either.

jsbell@ could you please look into this issue
,

I'm waiting for confirmation of the full set of steps in #6. The suspicion here is that this is an OS bug affecting other apps, not just Chrome.
,
Nov 6 2017
jsbell@ , are you waiting on something from me when you reference #6?
,
Nov 6 2017
Whoops, I meant comment #21. And yes - if you can try those steps when it occurs it would help narrow down where the issue is occurring.

Mac triage: closing old issue without feedback or local repro steps. We strongly suspect that this is an OS bug. |
