Copying from a desktop app into chromium doesn't copy all text on Linux

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/59.0.3071.115 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. wget http://norvig.com/big.txt
2. gedit big.txt
3. select all text and copy
4. try to paste it in a multiline text field

What is the expected behavior?
All text is pasted.

What went wrong?
The copied text is truncated.
Note: gedit prints a message on console.

I found this issue when copying text in vscode (chromium derived). Bug report: https://github.com/Microsoft/vscode/issues/30246.

Unable to reproduce the issue on Ubuntu 14.04 with chrome #59.0.3071.115, #61.0.3163.79, as per steps mentioned in the comment #0.
Pasted the content into test url and observed that all text pasted.

test url : http://html.com/tags/textarea/

Attaching the screen-shot for reference.

Note: Didn't see the error in the console mentioned in the comment #0.

tom.deseyn@ could you please look into it and let us know your observations.

Hi, thanks for looking into this. This reproduces consistently for me on Fedora 25 using Google Chrome59.0.3071.115 (Official Build) (64-bit). See attached screenshot.
