Since Chrome use the new UI for settings (very bad for me), settings usage is very hard in real PC..bad user experience with the old PC with mouse and wheel to scroll. All Chrome dev probably use only 4K touch screens? I use 1680x1050 screen without blur cleartype,smooth.., and my request (because chrome wontfix this appearance and use material design only for tablet) is to add option to define the display density same as already added in GMAIL by Google to reduce whitespace, interline; and if possible to use a screen font and not the bad ROBOTO webfont (fast created and not for low density screen, that can't be used without blur effect, And the blur effect tires the view. Cookies manager to authorize or block site is very long; same for other list (cookies, local data, password saved...) And return to previous screen must return to previous line, and not force to scroll again!! see screencast. 18-default.. it's the new default view for chrome setting.. 3x interline (same as gmail Comfortable design density; comfortable for 4K screen) 18-very small.. it's the new default view tested to increase density, but very very bad.. interline not change and impact all other page. 18-good.. another test, but can't find similarity with the previous display, and not possible actually without impact browser. Can you add setting to reproduce same design as Gmail compact 27lines ? and return to previous line when back in setting.

The new UI follows the guidelines of Material Design promoted by Google so I guess their designers simply can't openly admit it worsens user experience on a desktop PC with a mouse. Moreover it's debatable: what's worse for me or you or any experienced/advanced user might be better for the casual or inexperienced users who comprise the majority of people, in particular those who use Chrome. As for the broken font rendering with disabled cleartype smoothing is also a rare use case because the majority of users don't disable cleartype so fixing it is very low priority, evidently, judging by the issue 244997 submitted 4 years ago.

They still waited to have more than 60% share before forcing the new design! And for Gmail setting up a density setting, and still the old contact Gmail version (much better). How many user not use Google+ (+1 me) since new UI, new settings and more more regression. Maybe GoogleDrive soon, Gmail??? For now we can still block access to the roboto font with DNS or AVAST. and use Opera (Hoping they do not follow the same direction, because based on chrome) Thanks for the many years of listening to the users, and easy forms to post bug/request (google code, monorail) Hoping however to be heard again, so as not to see material design as a mistake, but as something that can evolve for all. (Including roboto which can be improved for low-resolution screens)

This issue looks like, related to New UI material design settings as per comment #3. Hence adding appropriate label for further triage and removed bisect label. Thanks!!

For Settings specifically, there is already a bug about handling larger screens better, see issue 644535.
