OS: Chrome
Currently, we have different shortcuts to get to each part of the Chrome OS UI:
Alt Shift S for status tray
Alt Shift L for launcher/shelf
Alt Shift N for notifications
another new Alt Shift command for the stylus menu
These direct keyboard shortcuts are really helpful for anyone who does want to be able to jump directly to that given UI. However, in my experience with keyboard users and/or screen reader users, memorizing all of these different keyboard shortcuts to get to basic UI proves to be challenging. I propose that we keep all of these shortcuts, but that we also work on making navigation between these different areas more fluid.
For example, if a user were to press Alt Shift L to get to the launcher and shelf, if the user continue to press tab, they would go from the icons in the shelf, over to the notifications area, over to the status area, then loop back around (following visual order).
I'd love some perspective from the UX folks to determine the best way forward with this. I'd just like to work on making this experience more intuitive and user friendly. Thoughts?
