[Forum Prestable] Users getting HDCP error while watching HBO GO |
||||||||||||||||||||
Issue descriptionChrome Version: M60 OS: MacOS Raising this bug because users suggested that HBO GO worked on Canary without any issues while showing errors on stable. User Comment 1. I just tried streaming HBO GO on my new Macbook Pro and I'm getting an HDCP error only on chrome. I am able to stream on chrome canary and other browsers, just not regular chrome, which leads me to believe this is an issue with chrome. Is there anything I can do to fix this? It's inconvenient to keep switching browsers. I've already tried restarting chrome, installing flash, and disabling the hardware acceleration. 2. I also just obtained a brand new MacBook Pro, having this same issue. It was resolved by using Google Chrome Canary, though I'd like to continue using regular Chrome to watch videos on HBO GO. Please let me know next steps and if you'd like me to supply the same details from chrome://version, chrome://gpu and chrome://media-internals. Working with users on Forum to get chrome://gpu and chrome://media-internal details. Forum : https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!msg/chrome/L993uaypC_k/11BaYkNTAwAJ

@jainabhishek : are we sure this is hbo-go? HBO GO for me uses Flash, and uses my comcast/xfinity account (I used my personal comcast account which has an HBO subscription). I don't think this is using html5 streaming if it's hbo-go.

Both users were reporting issues with HBO-Go Maybe I selected a wrong component but thanks for adding correct ones.

Chrome M60 ships with flash version 26.0.0.137. Chrome M61 (canary) ships with flash version 27.0.0.96. as I mentioned previously, I didn't get an error when attempting to play HBO Go in Flash player on M60 beyond the "Flash not detected" (working as expected -> must allow Flash for that site). as neither report directly mentions it -> did the users have external display connected? I'm guessing yes, but would be good to confirm as my successful playback was purely in the local display.

Should I just post my results here or send them directly to an engineer? If so, to whom exactly? I just don't want to take up half the page with a report...

@ajawedwardak : are you trying to play HBO Go? or HBO Now? i ask b/c as indicated in my comment #2 above - on M61 stable channel, I am told I need to download Flash, and when I click the link I get a prompt from Chrome asking me to [Allow] or [Block] flash on play.hbogo.com. if I [Allow], it plays just fine. Please confirm url you're using so we can triage correctly. Thanks!

Hello, I am using Chrome 66.0.3359.181 (Official Build) (64-bit) (cohort: Stable) on Windows and had the same problem until I disabled the extension 'Privacy Badger.' So, for the ones reaching this thread, try disabling ad-blocking / Privacy enforcing extensions as an initial debugging step. |
