G appearing in the URL bar

Project Member Reported by wfh@chromium.org, Jul 31 2017

Issue description

Chrome Version: 61.0.3163.13 Dev channel.
OS: Android 7.1.2; Pixel XL Build/NJH47D

What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1) have a very high loaded android phone e.g. load a ton of apps
(2) Create a bookmark to a page on the homescreen
(3) Open bookmark and wait for chrome to load

What is the expected result?

URL appears as normal

What happens instead?

a 'G' appears beside the padlock. See screenshot. Clicking on the URL bar makes the G vanish, seems like it could be a race condition related to slow loads, and opening a page directly from a homescreen bookmark.

This has a very unreliable repro, it happened once yesterday and again once today, but I could not repro on demand.

Please use labels and text to provide additional information.

Sorry for the insane delay, but bauerb@ should have a better understanding of whether this was a known and addressed issue.

At least in the current code, we should only show the G in a new tab, not if the sheet is peeking and there is a page loaded. It could have been a temporary regression though. Do you still see this (even just occasionally)?
