HTML5 videos can be displayed fullscreen in Chrome Canary once or twice, but fails to display in fullscreen after that

Reported by bristols...@gmail.com, Jul 22 2017

Issue description

Chrome Version : 62.0.3164.0 (Official Build) canary (64-bit)
                       and
                       Version 59.0.3071.115 (Official Build) (64-bit)
OS Version: 10.0
URLs (if applicable) : https://www.rowdybristol.net/surpacfundamentals
Other browsers tested:
Add OK or FAIL after other browsers where you have tested this issue:
     IE 7/8/9: OK

What steps will reproduce the problem?

1. Open Internet Explorer 11
2. Go to: https://www.rowdybristol.net/surpacfundamentals
This page was created in WIX, and the videos are an HTML5 link created by streamingvideoprovider. At this point in time, the link is:
https://play.streamingvideoprovider.com/popapp.php?l=3CCJ4EB5HG156C8&w=1000&h=1000&p=4e633f553fe0f1349935a97536cfe732&title=cFields_Light_Global1000&bgcolor1=%23ffffff&bgcolor2=%23e0e0e0
(this will most likely change in the future)

3. Move the cursor to the lower right corner of the main video to display the control bar.
4. At the right end of the control bar, select the fullscreen icon.
The video will be displayed correctly in full screen mode.

5. Uninstall Chrome Canary (if installed)
6. (re)install Chrome Canary
7. In Canary, repeat steps 2 to 4
This should give the same (correct) results as IE 11.
8. I'm not certain of exactly what to do here, but repeat one or more of these steps:
8a: Close Canary, Then start it up again.
8b: Open other tabs and navigate to other pages (cnn.com, google.com, etc.)
   8c: Refresh the current tab
9. Close Canary and start it up again.
10. In Canary, go to: https://www.rowdybristol.net/surpacfundamentals
Note that the playlist has changed from a single vertical column to two columns, and the control bar is different than before.
11. At the bottom right corner of the main video, select the fullscreen icon.
_BUG_: The video is not displayed full screen.
12. Open Google Chrome (not canary)
13. Repeat steps 10 and 11, and the bug will appear.

Note: I have not tried uninstalling and reinstalling regular Google Chrome, as I don't want to loose all of the passwords which it has saved.

Feel free to email me if you need more information.

Hi,

Thanks for filing the issue. Rechecked the issue on Canaryversion 62.0.3166.o using Windows 10. Followed the below steps:

1) Navigated to link https://www.rowdybristol.net/surpacfundamentals
2) Clicked on Play video for the first video displayed and then eventually clicked on the full screen icon displayed on the player.
3) Observed that Video was not displayed in a full screen
4) Now used the same URL on IE and FF and repeated the steps 1 and 2 and observed that Video was not displayed in Full screen mode. Same behavior was observed on chrome stable as well 59.0.3071.115. A Java script error is displayed in console (Screen shot attached)

In all the cases and all the videos tried, we are not able to launch the videos in full screen mode.

But if navigated to the Second URL provided:

https://play.streamingvideoprovider.com/popapp.php?l=3CCJ4EB5HG156C8&w=1000&h=1000&p=4e633f553fe0f1349935a97536cfe732&title=cFields_Light_Global1000&bgcolor1=%23ffffff&bgcolor2=%23e0e0e0#clip=2zy273xickcg

Able to launch videos in full screen mode, both on Stable and Canary.

Request to please check and confirm on the same.

Thanks.!

Thanks for the response. I do get fullscreen mode working when selecting the long streamingvideoprovider link. I am trying to find a solution from them and Wix, but haven't found it yet. The one thing I wanted to note was that I don't have a problem getting fullscreen mode to work with the rowdbristol site the first time after re-installing Canary. However, after closing Canary down and restarting it two or three times, the problem occurs.

Here's some more information:

I am using :

Windows 10
Internet Explorer 11.1480.14393.0 (IE 11)
Microsoft Edge 38.14393.1066.0 (Edge 38)
Chrome Version 59.0.3071.115 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Canary 62.0.3166.

When I view https://www.rowdybristol.net/surpacfundamentals
or
https://play.streamingvideoprovider.com/popapp.php?l=3CCJ4EB5HG156C8&w=1000&h=1000&p=4e633f553fe0f1349935a97536cfe732&title=cFields_Light_Global1000&bgcolor1=%23ffffff&bgcolor2=%23e0e0e0#clip=2zy273xickcg

with IE 11 or Edge 38, I am seeing the display bar/fullscreen icon in the video as shown on the left half of the attached image, and fullscreen mode works correctly. It also works fine for me the first time I open it with Canary after uninstalling and re-installing Canary.

If I close Canary down and restart it, then navigate to the link, on the second or third time, I get the display bar / fullscreen icon as shown in the right half of the video.

Try this:

1. Uninstall Canary and delete all browsing data
2. Re-install Canary, start it up, and navigate to either link.
3. Note the type of display control bar / fullscreen icon at the bottom
4. Click the fullscreen button.

------------

I have not seen the "blocked by cors policy", but after Googling that phrase, it appears that it is related to a security measure in Chrome. I will look into this later.

Marking this as available so that it's clear I'm not working on it. Sorry :/

I get the same results as #2. Same results in FireFox and Edge as well. Looking at the source the code doesn't seem to be making a webkitRequestFullscreen call at all. So this appears to be an application problem.
