Cannot click links with mouse on Google Search App results

Project Member Reported by aelias@chromium.org, Jul 20 2017

Issue description

If I connect a bluetooth mouse to an Android phone and search for something using the system search app, clicking on links on the search results page with the mouse doesn't do anything. (This is a WebView.) Repro on NKG47R with 58.0.3029.83 and also on M60. No repro on 57.0.2987.154.

Regression as of M58, likely relating to the fact that we changed to fire proper mouse events instead of touch events to Javascript in that release. I suspect GSA search result page is very custom and does everything with Javascript touch events instead of having normal links -- they should switch to handling mouse events as well.

(Originally mentioned in https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=744219#c6 )

ryoji@, please ping this external bug when the internal issue is fixed so we can make Samsung aware of it.

Setting to ExternalDependency to get it out of the triage queue
@torne, in which version of Chrome, the patch has landed for this issue?

Comment 9 by torne@chromium.org, Nov 14 2017

There is no Chrome patch for this issue; we're behaving correctly. The bug is in the google search application, and they have not yet released their fix.
ryoji@ reports on http://b/63870082 that a fix has landed on Google Search App trunk and is scheduled to be released eventually in GSA 7.16. (Chromium version is irrelevant.) The GSA release schedule isn't finalized, you can ask ryoji@ for updates or approximate timeframes.
