Text-overflow:ellipsis has inconsistent scroll behavior |
|||
Issue descriptionWhen applying text-overflow:ellipsis to an element, the element is truncated with a "...". This truncation causes the element to fit completely within the input field. Despite this, the input field will still be scrollable, as though the un-truncated text was present. Scrolling reveals empty space where the un-trancated text would have been. See attached screenshots. View the attached html file in simulated device mode via devtools.

Triage check-in, still an issue in 66.0.3343.3. FWIW, Firefox also has overflow in that case (but they constantly change where the ellipsis is added which is extra bizarre). |

This is reproducible with non-INPUT elements. data:text/html;charset=utf-8,<div style="border:1px solid blue; width:400pt; font-size:40pt; overflow: hidden; text-overflow:ellipsis; white-space:pre">This is a long truncated text entry</div><script>document.querySelector('div').scrollLeft=100</script>
