Printing certain large google docs is really slow |
||||||
Issue descriptionReceiving user reports of printing large google docs being slow (i.e. spooling for a long time). Problem is suspected to be related to postscript generation. Either the postscript is hard to generate or is very large causing the printer to be slow. Sample documents and testing are needed.

I can confirm that certain large docs can be slow. This is especially true if it contains lots of images. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1kHFILcvoHrLp0u5NNf7N2_mCFNH31Fr2Uct7d1ZK6-Y/edit Attempting to print this file took 4 minutes to print 10 pages at which point, I gave up. The PDF rendered using 'Save as PDF' is attached. It's 2.4MB.

Update: We need to talk to the PDFium (Skia?) team about their PDF generation and see if they might have a bug. If that's not the case, other options will be explored.

Have you figured out where the time is going? Is (some component of ) CUPS taking all the time, or the browser itself? Does the print preview take a long time to generate? If not, then it's not the PDF generation itself that is slowing it down. Though the generated PDF may be hard to process? Also, PDFium != Skia.
