I checked the same behavior with the same google-chrome version on another laptop, which did not exhibit the problem. The laptop where the problem occurs is a Dell XPS 13 9350, with a Skylake processor/GPU (i7-6500U). I also checked chromium on Debian, version 59.0.3071.104, and the problem does not occur. I attempted removing all chrome data and purging the package, but the problem persisted. I also tried attaching gdb to get a backtrace, however, I'm not sure where to get the debug symbols. Lastly, the problem is resolved in google-chrome-unstable -- 61.0.3159.5-1. I hope this helps and let me know if there is more information I can provide or where to get the debug symbols for the package.

I continued to use chromium and google-chrome-unstable today, but both eventually exhibited the same hang behavior, although it's harder to reproduce the issue. In the case of chromium, the hang appeared when a pop-up was supposed to be drawn while removing a gist from github.com (go to gist.github.com). Chrome exhibited the hang when drawing the "spinner" icon for a page. I can't tell if it's the same issue and it is harder to reproduce. I'll attempt to build chromium from source this weekend and attempt to get a backtrace if I can trigger the same behavior.

I can reproduce this bug with the chromium build on Skylake by creating and then attempting to delete a gist on github.com (https://gist.github.com). Debian chromium version is: Chromium 59.0.3071.104 built on Debian 9.0. I'll look into testing the behavior from master this weekend.

I haven't been able to reproduce this. Did you have a chance to try testing from master? (Or has anyone else seen this problem?)

Just finished building chrome from master and can't seem to reproduce this issue. I did notice that the modal rendering has changed for the extension pop-up and same with the github gist. I'm going to close this issue -- will report back if the problem reappears.

I've bumped into this again. Running with the build of Chrome from August 5th, I tried launching the browser with "--single-process --no-sandbox --no-gpu" with gdb. I attached the output from "thread apply all bt" when the browser hung. I also have the core dump, but it's 2.2GB. If it's useful, I can upload it somewhere and provide a link. |
