Not allowed to navigate top frame to data URL - even though I'm navigating to a _blank frame.

Issue description
Chrome Version : Chrome 60.0.3112.50 (Official Build) beta (64-bit) (cohort: Beta)
URLs (if applicable) : N/A
Other browsers tested:
Add OK or FAIL, along with the version, after other browsers where you
have tested this issue:
Safari: N/A (on windows)
Firefox: PASS 54.0.1 (32-bit)
Edge: FAIL (doesn't manage to open link) 38.14393.1066.0
What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1) Create anchor link which has href set to a data uri, and the target set to _blank
What is the expected result?
data uri should open in new tab
What happens instead?
The link does not open, and the following error is sent to the console.
Not allowed to navigate top frame to data URL: <truncated data uri>
Please provide any additional information below. Attach a screenshot if
possible.
It works as I expect in Chrome 59.0.3071.115 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Here is a file that reproduces the issue. The ticket this has been linked to seems like the implementation of this problem - I'm concerned that this being closed as a duplicate means that the feature will live with the bug being ignored... |
