Had some initial problems with instability. ChromeOS updated itself 2 times in a row initially, browser was crashing and it was not saving my profile. A technician assisted and we powerwashed the machine and another manually added the additional google drive space that would not validate with the purchase. Nothing is ever synced (that I am aware of ) to my google account except bookmarks. I have had many coding problems with my chromebooks in the past but my accounts had been infiltrated via stagefright, trying VPNs, extra firewalls, etc. I don't know if something has changed, but I haven't been able to mount "zip" files and must extract them using the zip extractor. (for about 1 month) and not that it kills me, but when I use google hangouts, a record of my video chat is no longer preserved- if this is for security reasons, I'm good with that, just thought i'd mention. The inability to mount zip files and and lack of hangout logging is happening on this brand new chromebook and my previous one. Given the recent difficulty with getting this running, thought to just double check the validity and security of this machine. How could I have a TPM error on a brand new machine?? I thought the tpm errors in the past were possibly due to all my stagefright issues causing account corruption. I am submitting this information for your review. Attached is todays log, and then the log from Jul 6 that also said there was ssl filtering that I didn't know what that meant, but the log analyzer code said to be careful or something like that Best- Corina

Hello, I am having the same problem with mounting zip files. For me, sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't work (more often, it doesn't work: I double click on a zip file and Files tells me it doesn't recognize the file). Oftentimes, if I leave my computer alone for 10 minutes or so, the next time I double-click on the zip file it opens just fine.

Same problem here. I cannot mount any zip files at all. When I double-click nothing happens. I have been using this zip mounting facility for a couple of years since I started using chrome and it has worked faultlessly. Suddenly this month, the function has stopped. I suspect its a bug introduced at the last OS update. Zipping files is OK. Its just the upzipping that wont work. Very annoying as I rely on the fucntion.

We are seeing similar bugs: 658465 - Opening a zip from Google Drive gets Files app stuck and can't eject - chromium - Monorail 479327 - zip open fails silently when Native Client plugin disabled - chromium - Monorail 524876 - Files.app takes too long time to open after drive cache of mounted zip archive is cleared. - chromium - Monorail 551863 - Cannot mount ZIP files from inside Open dialog - chromium - Monorail 740038 - Unzip extremely slower than manually dragging files out - chromium - Monorail 276508 - File.app don't alert about write protected SD Card - chromium - Monorail

The solution that worked for me is as follows: (1) Open your browser (2) Type into the address bar... chrome://flags (3) Press CTRL + F to open the FIND dialogue (4) Enter 'ZIP' into the find box and the cursor will go to the section entitled 'New ZIP unpacker' (5) Click on the 'Disable' link, then completely close down the chromebook (don't just put it to sleep). (6) Next restart the chromebook and go to the 'New ZIP unpacker' section again and click on the link again to re-enable the function. (7) Close down and restart the chromebook again. To summarise... all you have to do is disable 'New ZIP unpacker' and reboot, then enable it again and reboot. This procedure has fixed it for me and I have had no more problems. I only did a normal power-down but a for a more throrough reboot you could try holding down the 4th key from the left at the top while pressing the power button (This is the page refresh button. It has a clockwise arrow on it).

I have found that the updated ZIP mounting is much slower than before and I often get an error message saying that mounting is taking longer than usual and do I want to abort. If I leave it the system works itself out. This may be a problem with larger files.

Improvements for mounting a zip file should be available with M65. Please re-open if this is still an issue.
