Chrome use other font than default configured by fontconfig

Reported by nech...@gmail.com, Jul 1 2017

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/60.0.3112.50 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Open Chrome, possibly navigate to Wikipedia.

What is the expected behavior?
Chrome should render DejaVu Sans as sans-serif.

What went wrong?
Chrome renders some foreign ugly font as sans-serif.

Did this work before? Yes 59.0.3071.71

Chrome version: 60.0.3112.50 Channel: beta
OS Version: Debian testing
Flash Version:

My default font for alias sans-serif is DejaVu Sans, as can be seen by using fc-match:

$ fc-match sans-serif
DejaVuSans.ttf: "DejaVu Sans" "Book"

After upgrading Chrome from version 59 to 60, text everywhere in Chrome, in user interface and in web pages, is rendered in some ugly non-sharp font.

In the attached image (also here https://i.imgur.com/4gw19N0.png) there is a comparison with current Firefox which still uses correct sans-serif.

Even the GTK open file dialog is affected. serif is also wrong.

I was on beta channel. I switched to stable. It works properly in 59.0.3071.115. Please, don't release the 60 as stable with this regression. It's pain for my eyes...

The problem is in Debian package in libfreetype6 that switched to new interpreter in Debian testing. I don't know the details, but the following environment variable goes back to old font rendering:

export FREETYPE_PROPERTIES="truetype:interpreter-version=35"

I didn't reboot my PC after system upgrade so most programs were using the old library and that's why I could see both versions at the same time I guess...

Please close the issue.
